Bristol the great city
Not sure if any of you are watching this -0-0 half time- gotta say some game this both sides going for it-both sides attacking.
This is what Bristol City need to aspire to.
If I was watching football like this draws would be okay.
The speed of the football going forward is a different level.
 
I watched it out here on the west coast and I was thinking along the same lines RR because playing that kind of football in front of those crowds is what we need to aspire to become. If indeed it is our intent to challenge for promotion we have to meet and exceed the playing abilities of at least 10 others in the Championship before we can even begin to think of ourselves as annual contenders. When you realize that many other teams have been there before us and have done that on crowds of around 10/12,000 which would seem impossible to sustain unless you have desire to succeed, and regrettably Bristol City fail in that department in most seasons. Many of us have said ad nauseum that the priorities need to change before we will see regular crowds in the 25,000 region and here we are at yet another crossroad where we have no idea which way to turn yet alone how to build a decent squad. All the drivel we here from the top is not worth a grain of salt until such time as they start to care a whole lot more about the quality of the product we are forced to watch week after darned week. Wake up someone please but don't make too much noise in the process.

It was a good game, I enjoyed it, but Sheffield Utd didn’t have a shot on target and only had 5 off target. Thought Leeds were a level above.

I don’t think we are as well run as other clubs and we’ve not had the real desire to really go for promotion to the very top division
The likes of Luton and Burnley are smaller than us yet by either the owners being determined, and or employing the right management team, they’ve done it

Maybe, we have tried young up and coming managers, and old experienced heads over the last 10 years, and neither has worked. So, do you think the issue higher up in our club?

I’ve thought for many years that SL, despite what he’s done for the club, is also its worst enemy in a non intentional way
If rumours are to be believed for instance, he chased Coppell and that backfired hugely but then he also employed LJ which totally split the fan base and then a succession of nobody’s until Pearson, and then we had Covid
The hierarchies of Liverpool, Arsenal, the Manchester clubs etc have football people running them and know how to succeed and that’s what has kept them challenging for honours for as long as I can remember
Ok Man City were in division 3 a couple of decades ago, but look at them now
It doesn’t always work of course
Newcastle spent years in the doldrums as have the likes of the Sheffield clubs
But at least they’ve been there
All we get is hot air and no evidence that we’ll ever be any better than we are right now
And that’s quite depressing

I have said several times that if Steve Lansdown used the same apathetic approach on critical decisions in his regular day job as he does with Bristol City then he would be out of work. What are the odds that non-performers at Hargreaves Lansdown who fail to meet the remit, or do not work under the plan, receive short shrift before they are shown the door back to street level? The problems have hung around Ashton Gate for way too long and the only common factor throughout those years is Steve Lansdown and by definition he has to be the culprit and architect of our problems. I really question as to whether the man himself has any idea how to run a football club because if you look at his track record when it comes down to getting the critical decisions right he has failed in his remit each and every time. SL's commitment to our club in the financial department has never been in question from where I sit, but if it were me I would want a return on my investment and being in the business that he is makes me wonder whether he gives a rat's bum for the BCFC side of his portfolio. Bristol Sport and the failure to get a new stadium in Ashton Vale both seem to have played a part in his decisions that affect the footballing side of the equation, but of course he is too proud to finally face those facts and get things right for a change. Great potential and even greater support means nothing when someone who makes all of the key decisions just looks the other way, constantly expecting us to believe all of the hype when really it is mostly garbage.

Famous saying the buck always stops at top.
SL has invested more money than any other in the history of Bristol City but apart from the Gary Johnson era we have been no where near a promotion side to the prem.
SL I thought finally brought the right manager in with NP then his son binned him off.
You cannot make it up.

You’re missing the point, it’s not for us to name our next manager, we aren’t football people and aren’t in the know. We should have people in key positions in the football club who CAN answer that question, but we don’t. That’s the whole problem in a nutshell.

With respect Ashton it's not "the whole problem in a nutshell." You are ignoring FFP that has a massive part to play. It is extremely difficult to achieve promotion against sides with PP. And dont give me LM has been well backed. He has been well backed in the context of city but compared to a number of sides in the division and even those below, if you count Birmingham, he has not. And as side note we are now after 10 games one place better off than last season under Nige
