He had no backing at all at Espanyol. I suppose it would make sense that he wouldn't want to go through that again, but I doubt the situation at Saints is anywhere near that bad.
He has never really been a money or big club type guy either in his playing or managerial career. Supposedly he is loyal and enjoys developing players. To that end, he has a great young core, a state-of-the-art training center and fantastic academy. He's not going to find a manager position at another club that comes close to what he has here.
If the setup here doesn't make Pochettino happy, then he's not the guy we thought he was. In which case I wish him good luck and goodbye.
He did get the backing at Espanyol for as long as they were financially able to do so. But one has to accept in Spain that two clubs hoover up all the money, and clubs like Espanyol have to take what's left. It meant that the club had to sell and sell to keep the wolf from the door. Hardly an ideal situation, when one has an ambition to follow.
I agree about the infrastructure at Saints. If he is the man we think he is, he'll stay. If not, Fran will have to make do with Morgan again.
Beddy could be right about the funding, but it's well to remember that the rumours are merely rumours.
Funnily enough, it has only just struck me how undermined Saints are. According to rumour, press hype and the like, our manager is probably leaving at the end of the season, Shaw and Lallana are definitely off to anywhere the latest rumour puts them, Morgan and Calum are off to Arsenal, Rodriguez is off to Liverpool, or is that too old a rumour now..? WHU still want Lambert. Lovren is going to ManU to help solve their defensive frailties. I think Cork is wanted by someone but I can't remember who. Oh, and of course, Ramirez is so unhappy here he's bound to leave. Do I exaggerate..? Perish the thought that the press have left Fonte, Wanyama, JWP and Davis alone. No doubt we'll be informed that they're off as well. I'm pretty sure this sort of thing doesn't happen to other clubs to such a great degree.
So we are left with Boruc, U21**, Fonte, U21, U21, Wanyama, JWP, U21, Davis, U21, U21. [**development players filling in for transferred stars]
So, after all that asset stripping, Saints will find themselves back in League One in 3 or 4 seasons.
