I think you will find a lot of the bargaining is about how much money there is in the transfer kitty for progress. Until he is sure that he is going to get the type of backing he was promised under Cortese, he is likely to keep his options open. There are a few rumours around saying that he will not get the promised backing, in which case he will be off IMO.

He had no backing at all at Espanyol. I suppose it would make sense that he wouldn't want to go through that again, but I doubt the situation at Saints is anywhere near that bad.

He has never really been a money or big club type guy either in his playing or managerial career. Supposedly he is loyal and enjoys developing players. To that end, he has a great young core, a state-of-the-art training center and fantastic academy. He's not going to find a manager position at another club that comes close to what he has here.

If the setup here doesn't make Pochettino happy, then he's not the guy we thought he was. In which case I wish him good luck and goodbye.

Then let's hope that these rumours hold as much credence as stories about Santa and the Tooth Fairy (apologies to younger readers if I have just destroyed a deeply held belief!).

IF Poch stays and we lose Luke Shaw to Chelsea for shed loads of money, I would be saddened but realistic enough to know clubs do this sort of stuff and we'd hopefully see the money + some spent on bringing in some quality players. That Osvaldo who plays for Juventus, for example. This would probably keep Adam Lallana et al happy

IF Poch goes ... we lose players hand over fist as it'll be a signal that there is to be no real progress but a hope that we might stand still - which of course we won't because everyone who has ever run a business knows that you reach a point where you either push on or go backwards. The only way that we could afford to lose Poch would be if a huge name were to be unveiled first. David Moyes might be available!

I cannot believe that the business savvy Liebherr family and our new chairman are fools.

So what we're looking for is a world-class manager who is wholly loyal, has no greater ambition than developing players (even if they are later sold), and fancies training equipment over trophies? Might take a bit of searching to unearth that one.

He did get the backing at Espanyol for as long as they were financially able to do so. But one has to accept in Spain that two clubs hoover up all the money, and clubs like Espanyol have to take what's left. It meant that the club had to sell and sell to keep the wolf from the door. Hardly an ideal situation, when one has an ambition to follow.

I agree about the infrastructure at Saints. If he is the man we think he is, he'll stay. If not, Fran will have to make do with Morgan again.

Beddy could be right about the funding, but it's well to remember that the rumours are merely rumours.

Funnily enough, it has only just struck me how undermined Saints are. According to rumour, press hype and the like, our manager is probably leaving at the end of the season, Shaw and Lallana are definitely off to anywhere the latest rumour puts them, Morgan and Calum are off to Arsenal, Rodriguez is off to Liverpool, or is that too old a rumour now..? WHU still want Lambert. Lovren is going to ManU to help solve their defensive frailties. I think Cork is wanted by someone but I can't remember who. Oh, and of course, Ramirez is so unhappy here he's bound to leave. Do I exaggerate..? Perish the thought that the press have left Fonte, Wanyama, JWP and Davis alone. No doubt we'll be informed that they're off as well. I'm pretty sure this sort of thing doesn't happen to other clubs to such a great degree.

So we are left with Boruc, U21**, Fonte, U21, U21, Wanyama, JWP, U21, Davis, U21, U21. [**development players filling in for transferred stars]

So, after all that asset stripping, Saints will find themselves back in League One in 3 or 4 seasons.

Can I start a rumour that he is getting 500 million next season....he isn't of course, but it is now an official rumour. All that happens is that people repeat someone's guess and it gains credence. What amount of money would anyone consider is reasonable for a team in our position? I bet it's half what fans think as it is easy to spend other people's money. MP may not be in a hurry to sign an extension, but that doesn't mean he won't later. Patience is needed (though if he could sign today we'd be ever so grateful <laugh>).

You do anything you want, Fran.

I'm fed up to the back teeth of reading rumours of players and staff leaving. It's the old thing, that if you read it enough times even the rumours take on a validity to which they have no right. Sometimes I do have to remind myself that rumours of Shaw, Lallana, the entire team, Pochettino leaving are all complete speculation and rumour. They have absolutely no truth in them. It's simply people making up stories to sell copy.

I have a reasonable source at St Mary's Fran.......I don't normally get involved with rumours but shall we say this one has a bit of bite in it. Most of the conversations I have cannot be repeated but this one was thought to be common knowledge.
It is true though unless you are actually part of the conversation it would still remain what it is....... a rumour!

The Leihberrs have sunk a lot of money into Saints...I would not be surprised if we have reached the stabilisation stage. The only way to get that money back is to sell the club and Katharina doesn't (thankfully) seem to want to do that. I would rather stay in her hands being sensibly run but with ambitions, than pass into an unknowns hands who may pour in money or bankrupt us. Mauricio may be willing to accept that challenge...the grass isn't always greener.
