Not for us specifically. Just in general I mean. His time at Marseille, his caps/goals for France, his reputation as a top player and so on. So many NUFC supporters were basically flabbergasted that we actually managed to get the guy, which speaks for itself.
Whilst nothing is set in stone, I'm certainly very confident that he's going to be a cut above the rest, and also unfortunately confident that bigger clubs might come sniffing about. He is to us like Sessegnon is to you guys I reckon.
I'm holding out on my opinion of Sessegnon until he's played in his proper position.
And I guess you aren't a fan of Tiote?
Fair point. That's what worries me really about these players who are seemingly a cut above. The bigger clubs come sniffing.
By the way, when I say 'star' I don't necessarily mean egotistical football celebs. Just players who are clearly a cut above the rest and have that touch of class about them which means that the club feels lucky to have them considering the circumstances. That's how I feel about Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Tiote. Coloccini as well actually, and probably Krul eventually if he breaks his way into the Dutch team.
I do wonder if Sessegnon's form might be due to Gyan getting unsettled and leaving. Aren't they like best buds or something?
Well everyone has their views of course. These are just my own. I think them, along with Tiote, are better than our team and could easily slide right into a much better squad at a much bigger club. Time will tell to be 100% sure of that though, yes.
Cabaye has came on a lot since the derby game though. Some real top performances.

. Again though, when I speak of Ben Arfa, and even Cabaye to an extent, it isn't just about their time with us. They've been class acts for a while, especially in international games.Hmm i'll try and answer as objectively as possible but it may be tough!
For me the only proven class player at your team is Tiote as hes had over a season to prove he isnt just a flash in the pan, and maybe the term class isnt the most appropriate but i think he is extremely effective at what he does and would be in most teams outside of the top 3. However for me even Tiote has limitations such as discipline and composure in certain areas of the pitch but hes defo one of ur standouts.
Cabaye and Ben Arfa are one in the same for me, very very limited games to judge their staus at this moment in time, clearly lots and lots of potential however judging anyone by a motd feature, performances in the french league and youtube videos doesnt cut it for me. I'll b happy to eat my words at the end of the season tho if theyve consistently done it for u guys (well i say happy....)
For us, Sess as mentioned at times looks absolutely outstanding and on occasions woeful, but out of position/playing in a currently very low on confidence team etc etc. doesnt help. Gordan wenever hes played a few games in a row has been a CLASS keeper however has the deficiency of being seemingly made of glass. Brown for me is another that as soon as you see him play his calmness on the ball, composure and reading of the game makes him standout a mile, especially in our defence!
As for the reason out team isnt currently going to plan, i dont really wana get into it as:
a) itl depress me and
b) I assume theres a word limit on posting which i fear i may exceed!
I think it is because Chappaz's posts are quite often 'very thinly veiled' digs at SAFC, which he tries to portray as genuine concerns. Secondly, it is the immense volume of posts regarding SAFC that he does, which I would argue are far more in number than all the Sunderland fans posts on your board put together, which eventually make some of our fans lose patience with him.
Experience tells me that I don't think that your mods would tolorate this constant barrage if it was the other way round, and posts would just be be deleted.

Sessegnong turned his back on the Champions League last season to sign for us (and came with the same sort of rep as HBA and Cabaye) so we have that 1 star player in that ilk... Time will tell - although with Bruce as manager I don't know!
It isn't a concern mate. It's just, well, an honest opinion. In this case, perhaps a more negative one, but considering how SAFC is doing lately, surely that isn't too unreasonable? No one here is making positive comments, even mackems.
I'm not gonna purposely make positive lovely-dovey threads just so I don't get a bit of stick.
If any mackem was making constructive posts on our board I wouldn't mind. There's a Bolton fan who regularly posts on our board and I like him.
This sort of thing goes in circles though. "Chappaz is a wum", "Chappaz posts on our board he's obsessed", so on and so forth. The same points, and the same replies, just get repeated over and over again. It's just a forum.
PS: This is the only thread on here I've ever made in the Sunderland section I think, so be grateful as it could be much worse.
Yeah I think most people tend to pick Sessegnon out as the 'one to watch', so to speak. The one who has some real class, technique and skill in his locker. I know I do, anyway.
With Gardner, or Larsson, or whoever else, you sort of feel like you already know their level and can see it regularly (which isn't a bad thing). It's a bit like Jonas or Simpson for us, but some players are already good with the potential to explode. Sort of makes things more exciting when you have players like that. It gives a sense of optimism.
I think Chappaz has a point. Apart from Brown, no one is looking a cut above the rest at the moment. Bendtner clearly thinks he has that star quality in him, and, whilst I haven't seen enough to make my own mind up, I'll at least credit the lad with his ambition and desire.
The sad thing is nine months ago, I'd have reeled them off - Bent, Gyan, Sess, and, on Ghanaian evidence at least, Muntari. But Bent, Gyan and Bendtner have all been asked to chase after hoofballs with too many defenders crowding them out, and Muntari and Sess have been blighted by being constantly played out of position. Net result - three exits and nowt else much to shout about.
The dominating personality in this club right now is someone called Mr. Threw-it-all-away. Very, very sad.

Like i mentioned in my previous post, Sess in an appropriate position with 2up front ahead of him undoubtedly has the ability to be a star player. Brown is already miles better than we've had in a while, tho Mensah in his 1st season was immense and he was CLEARLY a player with the ability to play at a higher level but injuries dictated that he had to play at a lower level (possibly what has happened to a few at ur place?)
Gordan is an awesome player, tho same scenario in being massively injury prone.
Basically theres no loyalty in football these days at all no matter what anyone says, probz the last time i genuinely witnessed it was Le'Tiss or even Shearer at ur place who in the prime of their career refused to move despit higher clubs interest. Therefore clubs like ours need to make the most of out "class" players for the time we have them as undoubtedly if truly class or even just he potential to be, they wont be there for long.
I watched Bendtner on Monday night - his first touch was exquisite byt the way - Sessegnon had been on too many shredded wheat as every ball to Bendtner was hammered at him but his control was excellent - his movement and hold up play was excellent too - but the players around him were pants - Larsson was too knackered as he was playing both at left back and left wing for the 57 minutes he was on the field due to Richardson's ineptitude at Left Back!!
Thought Bendtner, on another day, might have had a couple of goals on monday night - at least one for the quick feet he showed which brought that excellent save from their keeper

Far from it, he is a good player, but could be better, he;s rash and often dirty, hence his number of cards, and why NUFC were reluctant to play him end of season, for fear of another ban...
Sorts that part out, he will be off quicker than a pig market kecks on a sat night. Off to a bigger club one day for sure.
I think that Chappaz raises a valid point in the fact that if either of our clubs produce a "star" or help a player develop into one, they will be lost to one of the big 4 who can offer them Champions League football and huge wages. Unfortunately this is the reality of modern day football and modern day footballers.
