Lacking 'star' players

I think that Chappaz raises a valid point in the fact that if either of our clubs produce a "star" or help a player develop into one, they will be lost to one of the big 4 who can offer them Champions League football and huge wages. Unfortunately this is the reality of modern day football and modern day footballers.

what has chapazz got to do with sunderland let keep to his own boards <bubbly>

Not a question of acknowledging whether Cabaye or Tiote are class players...we re just not interested Sonny !

Yeah don't worry, I didn't mean ALL mackems, just the few that have posted negative comments about them on this thread.

The reason Sunderland fans aren't acknowledging cabaye is good (as you maintain) is that in the one game most sunderland fans would have seen him (the derby) he was anonymous. The only incident remembered was the shocking tackle for which he was booked.

If you want acknowledgement about how good he is, can I suggest you look for it on your own board rather than the Sunderland one?

Right this really has degenerated into a slanging match! The real difference between the two clubs is we have a manager who knows what he is doing (can't believe I am saying this) and they do not!

Interestingly, was it not yourself who posted the other day that Pardew has won exactly the same amount of games as Bruce in the time he has been here? If not you then it was one of your own who offered that insight and also said that after 6 games, it was hardly the time for us to panic or your lot to gloat. It’s a fact that opened my eyes a tad to be honest and got me thinking about my own stance on Bruce I can tell you.

Also, didn’t both Blackpool and Hull have a similar start to yourselves in the last 2 years and look where they ended up?

The time for really crowing is May 15th after the season has ended. Pardew has impressed as have 1 or 2 players in 1 or 2 games but let’s see what the next 6 games bring for both clubs and then we can confer once again and compare notes!

Just an honest theory here, so hear me out.

Do you think one of the reasons this current SAFC team isn't going to plan is because of a lack of real 'star' players?

Imo, every team has one, two or more star players who are just a cut above the rest and add that extra bit of class into the team. I really don't see anything like that in Sunderland apart from possibly Sessegnon, but he has yet to show it (may not be his fault if he's being played out of position).

Just to use Newcastle, for example:

Cabaye
Tiote
Ben Arfa

Now in my view, they're three players who are a cut above the rest and key to our team (I know Ben Arfa hasn't played for us much but I do believe he is an outstanding player). I'm also personally terrified that in the years to come, one of the top, top teams is going to swoop in and give Ashley a sizeable offer he can't refuse for one, or all, of these players.

Now do you guys really have any players where you're genuinely worried that they're so good to the point of attracting attention from major clubs?

Another way of identifying players like that is when you honestly believe that they're too good for your own team, and that you're lucky to have them. Who would you say falls into that bracket in your team? Possibly Sessegnon again, but who else?

Don't get me wrong, you guys have some good players, but who is really on that extra level which ends up being so important during games?

No doubt I'm going to be shot down for this but hey ho. Just a thought I had. If anyone can put anyone forward which nullifies my point then I'll be happy to hear it.

Horse **** a wum fishing expedition

So as I said.... ignorance then.

Hmmmm I would not come on here to antagonise you guys. Truth is, I know how it feels to see a club suffer and while I do occasionally revel in it I see no point in winding anyone up. Also, I am not smart enough to pluck stats out the air like that haha

I do hope you get help with your Asperger Syndrome! Might make you a more pleasant person :).

Now for calling me thick, I have 11 GCSE's (do you know what they are?), 3 A Levels and a degree in Civil Engineering!

Pity you are from Fife.... We can't all be cool I guess :)

But you don't know what Asperger's is, do you?

Here we go. It is a form of autism where social interaction becomes an issue! All I ever see is Master Simpson abusing people and not getting on with them. I say it tongue firmly in cheek (but I get the feeling you do not get that.) Please put your butter knife away from this gun fight. You have no chance ;)

Yeh, but I got ya! Just a bit of fun, like.

I've got a degree in shagging - I know what I'd prefer.

For your info - I live in an idyllic part of the country, and yes it is a COOL place to live.
