Even if he does come back now you'd have to wonder who would take that first risk with a driver with now questionable ability. He would probably have to do a season in another formulae to to prove he physically can

Why? Neither Schumcher, Raikonnen or Massa did, and Massa had a head injury, far far worse IMO. I think a few days of testing will be enough, as I doubt he's been sitting on his arse since he hurt himself. If he's fit before the end of the season maybe a few FP's or a drive in something like the HRT

Robert Kubica set to make rallying return in Italy

Robert Kubica is set to make his return to competition in rallying this month and could compete in the Ronde Gomitolo di Lana Rally in Italy on Saturday.

The Pole, who has been out of action since a big accident while competing on the Ronde di Andorra Rally in February 2011, is entered for the event.

AUTOSPORT understands that it is not yet certain whether his car, a Subaru Impreza WRC, will be ready in time for the two-day rally, but if it is not his comeback event will be the the Rally San Martino di Castorzza the weekend after.

A decision on whether the car is ready to compete tomorrow is expected later on Friday.

Kubica recently had a successful test with the Ford World Rally team.

Maybe he has a career in WRC's lined up <ok>

I've said elsewhere but to me that sounds like major progress. I don't know much of the rallying world but it would be good if he could compete in all/any remaining rallies of the year and then do a season of GP2 next year.

F1 would be for the better with Robert Kubica in it! Quality driver, hope he makes it back to F1 and to a top team as well!

Great that he's returned to racing, but there's still a long way to go:

But Brazil’s Agencia Estado said that the 27-year-old’s first real public appearance since his crash also revealed the true extent of Kubica’s new limitations.

The former BMW and Renault F1 driver “does not have full mobility of his right arm”, said the report.

Indeed, footage of the minor Italian rally shows that while Kubica is able to steer a car with both hands, the movement in his right arm and hand is obviously limited.

He held the winning trophy and champagne aloft, and drank water from a bottle, only with his left arm.

His arm looks a mess. He's racing again though, and racing pretty well if he's winning rallies, however minor. His latest surgery was only in June so it's well over a year that he was injured, he's probably nowhere near getting fully getting his strength back, hopefully it's just a matter of time before he's gripping champagne bottles with both hands, preferably in an F1 race suit.

Loeb's only semi retiring I think, pretty sure he's racing in Monte Carlo. Hopefully Kubica can get a drive though, and maybe do a bit of F1 testing if his fitness improves.
