I disagree, Having players in demand represents progress and to continue to progress these players will be sold and squad will have to evolve. It's the nature of the beast when we find ourselves with real quality instead of poor player we can't shift.

We were on the right tract when we sold hendo, mig and bent for an insane amount of money but Bruce wasted every penny(the money was made available just wasted) and we failed to evolve. This same challenge is presenting itself now and this time we need to spend well to continue to progress. The alternative is sign **** players and eventually go down. Sign very good players, they will move on and we need evolve, it's the next step in progression from the shower of **** we've just spent half a decade watching.

The reality is we're nowhere near the stage where we can keep our best players. That will take European qualification to fulfill our best players personal career goals. Until then we sell and reinvest. Like every other club mid to lower end of the league club.

And yes, hopefully the Likes of Khaz and Jan are next, then we need to go out and find a couple more. It's simply the next stage in progrssion. Better than a squad of Grahams and Fletchers we can't **** and loss a lot of money over.

Its not the fact we are selling him that worries me, its the timing of it. If we do sell him I expect a replacement is walking through the door as he walks out. I think its a lack of trust towards the club on whether we will replace him. Many will worry that this untried new lad from Chelsea will be his direct replacement, or that Rodwell will move to centre back. If we do sell Kone I expect to be brimming with confidence over the excellent signings that we will have achieved before the transfer window shuts. But what I expect and what we may get are 2 different things.

It makes no sense selling Kone. The only thing I can think is that Ellis is not giving out much money so the only way Moyes can have some is to sell one of our most biggest assets. Feels like a huge mistake but looks like the Chelsea lad is actually a replacement not competition sadly.

yes i can fully appreciate that Bri and agree whole heartedly with it, i just thought that maybe we would have had another year or so prior to selling anyone, built a bit of a team then sell a couple at good profits then re invest, all sounds logical if ES gives Moyes the tools to do the job.

But who's to say he'll have a good second season? He's given us 4 months of form, hardly a long stretch of time to keep at the top of your game. He's not a perfect defender by any means, he could struggle next season for all we know. Keeping another year could send his value into orbit, or it render the player worthless. If the offer becomes too good to turn down, it's pointless taking the risk of keeping hold of him. If they don't offer enough, the risk may be worth taking. That's on Short's head to decide. I would personally hold out for 25m otherwise they can jog on and see how he goes with us next season

I believe skysports news sources to be one of the most unreliable going...
Yr like me mate. Remember when comical Ali in the Gulf war was denying we had took over the Iraq airport etc? He said we have defeated the infidels! But you could see our tanks in the back ground LOL! But still we refuse to believe it.

Everton bought williams £12million
Still think they will get Kone

Well that's your trust issues with the club. I have similar sentiments about Short. But I don't think he'd risk the backlash. The Sunderland fans haven't turned on him yet, but it is brewing. He'd be insane not to make every penny available.

Anyone who tries to put a positive spin on the possibility of us selling him are nuts! No offence like but wtf! 4 days before season starts...nightmare! And for those who say take the money and get a replacement...we already have the replacement! We need a striker and a RB desparately and what do we do? Sell our best CH in years for peanuts! Cos in todays market 17m is nowt!
Having said that...i think he'll stay!

I've said all along (read my posts) there's nothing concrete to suggest he is going. Sorry to be blunt, but the most hysteria I've seen on the internet about Kone leaving, is coming from people on this forum winding themselves up.

I agreed with you earlier but have changed my mind seeing it reported that he's there for negotiations. Looks bad and it's not just some silly tweet now.

Williams & Kone would be a great partnership like ...... Bastards <steam>

One report is saying Moyes is holding out for Jagielka coming this way.

Not sure why, but I still don't think he's going to leave.
