This is the only response Moyes would give today when questioned about Kone.

“I thought he played well today, but I can’t really say too much about what might happen,” was all Moyes would say.

Sunderland reject new offer from Everton for Lamine Koné

Premier League side Sunderland have rejected a brand new proposal from Everton for central defender Lamine Koné, as our colleagues at Foot Mercato revealed earlier this evening.

The nature of the new offer that Sunderland have rejected is as follows: €22.4m plus €3.5m in bonuses.

It remains unclear whether or not Everton will return with an improved proposal.

David Moyes is for the moment blocking Koné from leaving Sunderland.

It's only reasonable that we keep him, he's our player on a long term contract. Tough titties to Everton. I think at heart Kone is a good hard working lad and we won't have any problems with him.

MOYES TAKES KONE STANCE

David Moyes is still hopeful Lamine Kone will sign a new deal at Sunderlandafter keeping the centre-half on Deadline Day.

"It's been a difficult period for us all," said Moyes. "I understand Lamine’s position, but I also understand that we as a club had to set our position.

"We're looking to get things resolved and I will be delighted if Lamine signs a new contract and hopefully there will be news on that soon.

"We always said that if there was a promise of a new contract made [by former manager Sam Allardyce], we would stick by our word. We will do that."

No one knows the full story but I feel Moyes, and the club, have handled a dreadful situation very well.

Turning down a £10 million profit would seem to be at odds with the theory that Short won't spend and only thinks of money.

That's a £20 million 'deficit' when you consider N'Dong .......... hardly denying Moyes the chance to build a team is it?
