Agreed. End ofBut hang on mate, I haven't said at any point he's a top 6 defender. He isn't.I'm saying he's good at what he does. As i've said those good enough to do both go for stupid money and are quite rare.

Two types of cb, Stopper and Cover, stoppers tend to be the bigger of the two, no mess, less mobile, turning circles of curse liners, more likely to be caugh on pace and get the ball stuck in their feet(Think Turner as poor example, Jagealka or Cahill as decent ones.). They tend to be the worst footballers of the two CBs but better with dealing with imminent threat. the first line of defence for the defence if you will. Cover cbs tend to be better on the ball, quicker and does stuff like cover the space behind the stopper. mops up, uses his pace and reading of the game to make up those extra yards.
For example JoS was our Stopper and Wes did cover. We were all worried if Wes had the pace for it but used his reading of the game to give him the extra yard and did a decent job for a while covering dodgy O'Shea, that partnership worked for a while because they complemented each other and had an understanding. Always had a very short shelf life given the were both ****ing older than god.
Kone is typical Stopper in the sense all the things you mention are his weakness, like with most stoppers, he excels in the areas that matters though for his style of cb.
Defender who can do both well tend to cost stupid money.
I don't fully get it, because I was a striker.
Didn't make no difference to me if they were 'cover' or 'stoppers', I was going to score against them![]()
We aren't actually a million miles off here, I thought we were at first.
He may not get a good partnership going, if he doesn't compliment his partner well, but I still think you would be able to see the class shine through...
I'd have wellied you down the wing mate.

They all said that until they realised they had to get near me first.
DAVID MOYES has followed up the loan signing of Adnan Januzaj by stating that key defender Lamine Kone has been offered a new contract at Sunderland.
Kone was reported to have handed in a transfer request on Thursday night and issued a statement claiming that the Black Cats had reneged on a promise of a new deal if they stayed up.
Everton have made an offer, believed to be around the £21m mark, for Kone and Moyes has revealed the centre-back will be fined for his comments.
The Sunderland manager insists Kone, who only arrived from Lorient on a four-and-half year deal in January, has been told he can have a new deal next month.
Moyes said: "Kone's people were in last night and there have been several calls. He has been told we will renew his contract on September 1.
"He’s got a four-year contract and he’s done six months of it. We will honour something we said to him if we stayed up regarding a new contract.
"But because we’re in the middle of the transfer window, we’ve said can we get our business done first?
"I’ve only been in here two weeks, Martin Bain (CEO) has only been in a few weeks, so can we wait and do it on September 1?
"We don’t think that’s too big an ask. It surprises me he was supposed to be in Liverpool on Tuesday with people taking pictures.
"We’ve had an offer from Everton. I have had conversations with Bill Kenwright.
"We have told the boy there will be a contract there for him, but just wait a few weeks, if you don’t mind.
"We have had no formal transfer request. It’s given me a difficult situation. He is in my plans, he is a big player here. He was definitely in my team tomorrow but I have a decision to make because of what he has said.
"He will be fined for what he said as well."

Haha you beat me too it.
Great news!
Not sure that's right mate, at least it wasn't how I was taught to play. Cover and stopper duties don't matter too much about your ball playing ability.
That's something seperate altogether, they're just defensive roles while ball playing or simple passing/hoof clearing is a defenders distribution.
I always covered but never had the composure to spray the ball around so always looks for the simple pass to my CB partner, the full backs or the DM or I'd just ****ing welly it down the wing and jog back without even looking where it went.

Wonder how well that will go down!
Only ever had one, and it ended up with a season long ban because I chased after the ref and took him to the floor, went for the choke hold but it got stoppedI was fast as **** mate! My trouble was staying on the pitch longer than 60 minutes. Red cards were my biggest limitation.

****'s getting fined! Ha! I hope they fine him after he's signed his hefty new deal.
I hope the deal doesn't pander to his ego. Fair offer required, if he's trying to take the piss **** him.
I wouldn't want him on a penny more than 45 personally.
I think that's about right. Don't think we'll have given him more than 30k on arrival. We're generally tight on wages now that we've been bitten in the past. It was an unproven risk, his original contract would surely reflect that. He's proved he's comfortable so I think a rise is fair. However, it's just 4 months of form in reality and he hasn't proved himself to be worth mega money. I think 40-45k is fair.
