Not sure that's right mate, at least it wasn't how I was taught to play. Cover and stopper duties don't matter too much about your ball playing ability. That's something seperate altogether, they're just defensive roles while ball playing or simple passing/hoof clearing is a defenders distribution. I always covered but never had the composure to spray the ball around so always looks for the simple pass to my CB partner, the full backs or the DM or I'd just ****ing welly it down the wing and jog back without even looking where it went.
I don't fully get it, because I was a striker. Didn't make no difference to me if they were 'cover' or 'stoppers', I was going to score against them
Yeah, a scout could still spot his individual strengths. Even if the defence is shipping goals, but the defence is still shipping goals. I'm making the point that what he's formed with Kaboul has made him look better because together they've been so efficient in a traditional stopper/cover cb partnership. What I'm trying to say is, what he thinks is the best move is actually a gamble on how he'll understand his partner. It's easily done, just yesterday he was blamed for a mistake against stoke. It wasn't a mistake, the attacker just got the better of him it happens a lot both ways in a game, the problem is Kaboul, his covering defender, didn't play to the whistle when he was fouled, so stopped and didn't add any cover. This made Kone look bad to the point people are saying he made the mistake even though the mistake was Kaboul's. Just trying to say the grass isn't always on the other side and the lad should be aware of that. He's not a top 6 CB, he has his limitations like most CBs so a good understanding with a cb partner is essential for him.
I was fast as **** mate! My trouble was staying on the pitch longer than 60 minutes. Red cards were my biggest limitation.
DAVID MOYES has followed up the loan signing of Adnan Januzaj by stating that key defender Lamine Kone has been offered a new contract at Sunderland. Kone was reported to have handed in a transfer request on Thursday night and issued a statement claiming that the Black Cats had reneged on a promise of a new deal if they stayed up. Everton have made an offer, believed to be around the £21m mark, for Kone and Moyes has revealed the centre-back will be fined for his comments. The Sunderland manager insists Kone, who only arrived from Lorient on a four-and-half year deal in January, has been told he can have a new deal next month. Moyes said: "Kone's people were in last night and there have been several calls. He has been told we will renew his contract on September 1. "He’s got a four-year contract and he’s done six months of it. We will honour something we said to him if we stayed up regarding a new contract. "But because we’re in the middle of the transfer window, we’ve said can we get our business done first? "I’ve only been in here two weeks, Martin Bain (CEO) has only been in a few weeks, so can we wait and do it on September 1? "We don’t think that’s too big an ask. It surprises me he was supposed to be in Liverpool on Tuesday with people taking pictures. "We’ve had an offer from Everton. I have had conversations with Bill Kenwright. "We have told the boy there will be a contract there for him, but just wait a few weeks, if you don’t mind. "We have had no formal transfer request. It’s given me a difficult situation. He is in my plans, he is a big player here. He was definitely in my team tomorrow but I have a decision to make because of what he has said. "He will be fined for what he said as well." Wonder how well that will go down!
David Moyes has confirmed Sunderland will offer Lamine Kone a new contract.Kone had slapped in a transfer request, with a move to Everton on the cards for a fee of £18million. Kone released a statement last night spelling out his desire to leave the Black Cats and revealing that the lack of a new contract offer was the main reason for his decision. But Moyes has confirmed at his weekly press conference that the 27-year-old defender will be offered a new deal on September 1, the day after the transfer window closes. Moyes told reporters: "We've told Lamine Kone he will be offered a new contract in September. "Lamine is very much part of my plans. We will renew his contract on the 1 September." "Lamine is a big part of the team, the fans like him and we need him." Everton have been strongly linked with an £18million swoop for the centre-back, who became a cult hero after joining from Lorient in January and playing a key role in helping Sunderland stay in the Premier League. Get in
I never said it does, I just made the point that cover defenders tend to be better on the ball in the modern game. I never mentioned passing. I mean how they deal with the ball when they pick it up covering in a dangerous area. It could be short pass, it could be clearance to row Z, it about awareness on the ball in the danger areas and making the right decision on what to do with the ball. I haven't mentioned ball playing anywhere. Think you've got the wrong end of the stick. 'Ball playing' and 'on the ball' are completely different things to me. and the on the ball requirements vary from position to position.
Sounds to me like its going to be a case of suck it up, accept the fine or play in the reserves. Say what you like about Short's willingness to spend ££, but I bet he won't piss about when it comes to laying down a marker to players and agents who manage/try to play business politics with him. He's Texan, he might not be able to own a gun in the Uk, but next time he Kone has a meeting with him I bet there will be a golf club propped up against his desk !
Only ever had one, and it ended up with a season long ban because I chased after the ref and took him to the floor, went for the choke hold but it got stopped
I hope the deal doesn't pander to his ego. Fair offer required, if he's trying to take the piss **** him.
I think that's about right. Don't think we'll have given him more than 30k on arrival. We're generally tight on wages now that we've been bitten in the past. It was an unproven risk, his original contract would surely reflect that. He's proved he's comfortable so I think a rise is fair. However, it's just 4 months of form in reality and he hasn't proved himself to be worth mega money. I think 40-45k is fair.
Before all of this carry on I think he'd have been worth 60 but his position as fan favourite has completely evaporated. Silly ****er needs to put in some performances now.
