I think i just have higher expectations than quite a few - but not all. I consider this season a poor one. We were out of every trophy at an early stage and once again will be trophyless. We've had the same issues for 4 seasons but they have been slowly getting worse. Throw in some obvious errors by Wenger in the transfer market and its not surprising that many would be negative. The AST survey shows that many fans are disgruntled, with a trend moving towards Wenger out. We are however improving - and like our own Martin Keown said, I am more confident now about the team than at any other point in the last 4 years. I prefer to raise the issues - as opposed to looking at the world through tinted specs. I do admit (and have admitted in the past) that I will take an extreme view on particular subjects to create debate and sometimes the debate is good. Other times we get some children throwing their toys out of the pram - "How dare you criticise our God Arsene". Some fans have gone as far as to say that despite no success in 7 years Wenger is doing a brilliant job. The excuse is often money, which was never even mentioned when we were winning and competing against a club with far more money than us. Another fan even called this season brilliant! The facts never get considered - and that is since the move to the new stadium from year one we have had more money than at any time during our Highbury years. Of course when a mod wants to cover up any issues and hide people's opinions, it leads to false accusations of comments (usually with a spin on what was actually said - recently another poster was accused of calling for Allerdyce to replace Wenger in a bid to discredit him, when in fact he never said anything more than he had no problem with Allerdyce style of football and could live with him being manager), changed comments (actually going into someone else's comment and changing it from having a go at a MOD's behaviour to saying they support them!), deletions, banning, deleting accounts 'by accident', merging unrelated threads and the general baiting you see whenever the team has a good result. The inherent need in some to be positive and 'right' - despite results - creates some odd and pretty poor behaviour. 'Lord of the Flies' behaviour. There will always be factions both for and against an opinion - the small crowd of MODS and a few of their gang that can be found chatting in the 'Calling all Gooners' thread tend to be the ones that will attack like a pack of wolves at any sign of criticism. No debate - just attacks and then constant baiting, spoiling for another argument. The group that debate properly and talk about the actual issues holding us back as a club have come to accept the behaviour and just get on with it. I've even started arguing less with Piskie, though not stopped completely yet . Overall, I am about the most passionate Arsenal fan you could get, and am hurt when we fail, and elated when we win. I hated being so far below Spurs this season and hate that you have closed the gap, but am loving that we have gained the upper hand again. Pretty simple really. The failed logic that you can't enjoy good times if you criticise in the bad times is just another example of the kind of methods used by a few to discredit. The fact it makes no sense is not really considered.
The above post typifies the problem. You polarise everything and in doing so, twist other peoples words or worse still, fabricate them entirely. I include your claims about the AST stats too. I have never seen anyone say Wenger and his team are without fault, that our team doesn't need changes or anything of the kind. It only exists in two places. Your head and the posts you type such lies into. Give it a rest and just be honest for a change - the forum would be a better place for it
No, it wouldn't. If this forum comprised only sensible chaps, sitting down and calmly debating only on issues that could be verified by cast-iron facts, and respecting the views of rival fans with no hint of bias or passion, this would be a very, very dull place.
Utter rubbish. I have not said that a single person believes there are no problems. You just made that up. Perhaps you should not do that, as the one area where I agree with you is that this is one of the major problems. It causes others to come back and let it be known they said no such thing - as is the case now. As for the AST stats they are undeniable. - you can check the last two years and see the trend for yourself.
I am all for a wind up and swapping of banter. The problem we often face is that many can't recognise a piss-take from an insult and it is they that cause so many ructions. This applies to a number on both of our boards imo. However, it is the insidious nature of certain posters who knowingly lie to cause disharmony amongst their own fans that I object to. HIAG, the offer to swap you with Jayram is still open
Yes, you have knowingly lied about what I said above. I agree that causes disharmony - you should really be ashamed of yourself. Its a common problem with a few - in fact I have referenced some actual examples in my post that again, are undeniable.
In that extract from your post I assume you are discussing Arsenal mods. I would point out that the Spurs mods do none of things suggested above. Jayram perhaps you could remember that you are posting this on the Spurs board and add some qualifications to your comments.
Apologies, yes - not Spurs MODs. In fact I was talking about one individual who happens to be a MOD, was just trying not to name names.
Couldn't agree more. My being banned from your board was down simply to a very small minority of AFC fans (a) not understanding my humour, and (b) lacking any kind of sense of humour. It hasn't really affected my experience of the forum, however, because most of your guys post on this board, any way
They can't get enough of me, Spurf! They banned me because they couldn't handle the hard-core banter that I offered them, and now they flock here because they miss the banter! In all fairness, I don't mind the AFC posters on this forum, even the ones who really put the knife in. Even they are not as nasty and downright deluded as the 'Pool fans. Well, there are a couple of 'Pool fans who are okay, but not many.
So no doubt you will now be working to bring us some of these 'wonderful' 'Pool fans to fill in the gaps, when we all become too sensible.
To be honest with you there was bad blood in the early days, much of which was caused by one of your old mods being over sensitive. he used to edit posts, delete them and ban people for far less than you were banned from the goon board. A number of us are trying to get your ban lifted and I hope we win the day
Actually, what with all the water that has passed under the bridge, and with your new resurgence, I can imagine that we'd have some great banter. None of it was ever really nasty between us, any way. The mighty Spurs juggernaut, with its dodgy driver, versus Whinger's band of miracle workers... Yeah, I can see how that could lead to some fun exchanges
I think you're being generous there, HIAG. There were points where Piskie was basically the only one on there not calling for Wenger's head. There may have been others who agreed with him, but they were doing a very good job of keeping their heads down.
TBH we have very few banned posters but if you know any Arsenal fans who you think were unfairly banned perhaps we could set up a prisoner exchange deal. That would not include Arsenal4Life/Michigan/New York/Plonker USA of course.
Yes, I was being kind to PESKIE, there. I've got to say, though, that I did admire PESKIE for being a lone voice of resistance, when practically all of his fellow fans were accusing him of being stupid for believing that Whinger would turn it all around. The man has been proved right, and deserves a lot of credit for that.
I've never kept my big head down and pride myself on being one of those that constantly 'out' Jamrag as the fake tard that he clearly is
