Exactly, even selling the odd one for 3-500k, all adds up.
The supposed prospects like Laing, Noble, all have gone for nowt.
The academy is probably just about break even on running costs due to Jordan, but considering the build cost etc we'll be well in the red.
Society is becoming one big melting pot, football is no different. Bring these overseas lads in young enough, by the time they're good enough to play at an international level they've become multinationals and they can play for England. The amount of players playing for country's they weren't born in is now very common practice. Adnan Januzaj is a good example of a player who qualified for England from learning his trade here. I know the down side is sometimes they won't choose England, but not all players will have Belgium or another big international country to choose from. England aren't bringing enough quality through, if anything England will have better options in the future, just a shame it's the clubs finding a solution instead of the fa, 'proper' English talent will continue to suffer but it always will anyway until the fa take the responsibility and reform grass roots football and invest a lot of money.
I see Ged set his sights out as far as Ireland again this season, wonder if he took an out of work Pop Robson with him for the ride too, it was his favourite place too.
yer thats true they should just grow a pair and take that sky money and go right next season the sky moneys going on grass roots, and that ammount of money would help alot just one season! the clubs a rich enough! i think they held up alright before sky was around

Great idea and one that stops North East talent to linger in the doldrums even more. We need to start developing local kids and getting world class talent in to spot them. It works for the likes of Southampton so why not Sunderland? The whole Ball and Ged show has been a failure.
Why didn't Bally turn to Ellis and say lets get these lads on pro contracts, low wages with triggers, then send them out on season long loans to clubs at their level to get games, improve, and make names for themselves at that level then sell them off for a small profit. 75k here, 250k there, wages for all the academy staff paid for the season, bring in 1m for one then that's most of the academies running costs covered for the season. Money pissing machine is our academy. It's a crying shame because it's **** hot and ready to be utilised to it's full potential.
Maybe they just weren't good enough and Ball and Co were covering their backs pretending they were. TBH we need a clear out of the whole youth setup and scouting network. They arn't good enough for the level and we could get better. Congerton is the first piece in that puzzle now to sort out the kids.

Have we scouted any kids outside of Tyne and Wear in the last 20 years?
He started at PSG mate, we didn't get him until u21 age. He's a league one player now, could have recouped 50k-100k for a player at that level, we got nothing for him. Laing plays in the championship now, that means we could have got anything from 250k to 2.5m for him, depending on how a season long loan at that sort of level went. We don't know because we never bothered to even try to make some money off him. Pathetic, an absolute shambles.

Januzaz (sp) learnt his trade in Belgium hence why he can play for Kosovo, Albania or Belgium, SAF brought him over here in 2011, if he had played here for 5 years and decided not to partake in internationals for the other 3 nations, then he would have qualified to play for England, but as he has caps for Belgium, its too late now.
Remember we need work permits for kids outside the EU, we can't just pluck the next neymar from Brazil Barca and Real can, we can't.
He qualifies for Albania from his ethnic heritage, Turkey through his grandparents, and Serbia due to the disputed status of his parents' homeland of Kosovo and Kosovo ofcourse. That's why I used him. He's the ultimate example of the melting pot theory. He's the multicultural super footballer formed over generations to qualify to play for every country in the world!
Question for anyone who knows... How many footballers have played for more than one country? And what's the most amount of countries a bloke has played for?
