If we scrap the loan system big clubs will just sell their young players with buy back clauses which is effectively the same thing. If we "bought" Kenedy for £30m they would just put a buy back clause in for £35-40m and when his value sky rockets after winning the 2022 World Cup in Quatar scoring 71 goals in 7 matches (68 of them vs Qatar) we'd feel robbed for letting him go for £40m

Agreed and I do recognise there is no easy or perfect answer to this issue.

If loans were banned then it may deter the Chelsea's etc from hoovering up as much talent as possible in the first place as they would then be reliant on having to sell them with the buy back clauses in and the smaller clubs wouldn't have the money to buy them as opposed to loan them meaning that the Chelsea's are left with too many players who they can't give games too and can't afford the wages for.

You never know it may work but if it doesn't then there's nothing stopping everyone looking to address the next abuse of the buy/loan system.
 
Has he signed yet? Or is this a three-day medical, for a player who passed a medical about 6 months ago?
 
Get rid of loan system within the same league: ok, to loan to different league (no fees payable). All loans for the season. (so if the player develops the parent club is effectively paying for the development via wages/insurance). Loan club gets a minimal 'thanks' type X% (ie 5% of next transfer fee if player is sold within 2 yrs of loan for developing)

Maximum Squad size ..ie X (ie 33) players over the age of 21 ( including: if under 21 and possibly playing with the 1st team and given a squad number)

Max X amount players in the under 21 squad.

Max X amount in the under 18 squad.

There is no doubt a bit of forethought (more than they usually manage) would be required before regulations are put in place.

It’s a none starter though because the PL are in bed with the big boys owners.

I think the current system is abused but with the right conditions/regulations it would work better. Like Jonjo's idea of a set limit of U18's, U21's etc to say 25-30 man squads. You need 18 for a squad and a few for injury/suspensions but would still allow for 5 or so players from each squad to be loaned out. Would benefit clubs under the EPL but as you say they barely have a voice when it comes to these things.

Yep restrict squads. Put clauses in place where they have so long to become part of the first team before they get a free of the want it. Lots of things we could do. It would not be hard to make their current monopolisation tactics become unattractive. The great thing is the natural by-product is a more competitive league. I am probably one of the few who would love to see them **** off with their money into a European super league.

Great deal. Be nice to have an option but if that is all Chelsea will allow then at least he’s at Newcastle.

Some reputable journalists are saying yes. Others are saying that it is just a straight loan. He is out of contract at the end of next season and is unlikely to sign a new one so could go relatively cheap.
