Saints first choice keeper next season?

Not sure he’s had a bad game, but with Fraser, we’ve expected him to reach the heights he has before. Excellent all round keeper; using his height to dominate the box, comfortable with the ball at his feet on either side, etc, etc but despite him being better than he was (starting from a very low point after that Spurs game) he will never reach his previous. As we loaded him up with such an enormous contract, when his confidence was shattered by something (insert rumour here) he’s been given all the support in the world to get back to his best, the trouble is, his best now is just a bit “m’eh”....we backed ourselves into a corner with the size of the contract and the weekly wage..... Les Reed legacy continues...

When did that happen <yikes>

If we get no-one in, we start the season with Fraser for me. We've been linked with Strakoshka who I think would be an excellent signing (no idea how realistic that rumour may be)

In a perfect world:
Forster: Sell
McCarthy: Sell
Gunn: Back up
Then buy new keeper with the money.

However, this isn't an perfect world and Gunn is likely the only one we could get any money for. So I'd sell or loan Gunn and have Fraser as our no.1 and Macca on the bench next season. After both their contracts are up next summer we would then need to buy a new keeper and potentially a back up if Gunn is sold.

Either way we need rid of Forster & Macca asap as neither are good enough and both are on hefty wages.

Shilts was World class and in his prime with us, Flowers was very good and earnt a move for the big money at Blackburn, Niemi was probably on a par with Flowers and SKD was superb at the lower level for us but not so much in the PL.

1. P. Shilton
=2. T. Flowers and A. Niemi
4. K. Davies

I'm not sure Kevin Davies would have made a good keeper. :emoticon-0136-giggl

Niemi was world class. I personally would have him above Shilton, who had the Fraser issue of being like Dracula when it came to crosses.
