Not sure if this has been brought up by anyone else on these threads, but our set pieces this season seem to be the most threatening and effective since we had Turner playing CB for us, wonder how much of that is down to Phelan? Snodgrass seems to be picking out Davies at the front post pretty much every corner at the moment, and its frigging effective.

Makes you wonder how much influence MP had on tactics etc., under Bruce's tenure?

This is probably bollocks but the current Shanghai SIPG manager is Sven-Göran Eriksson. Their forward Asamoah Gyan is apparently linked to be joining city.
Is Sven the guy advising the consortium regarding selecting new players and therefore is he lined up to be the next city manager. Sven just might like the idea of having another chance in the premier league.

I want Phelan to get the job but why wasn't he handed it straight away. Surely the consortium to would have authorised it but we still have a caretaker manager. Sven has an excellent CV and would attract big names to the club and he would get to live in the City of Culture. I hope I'm wrong but just putting it out there.
Anyway I'm going to check out the bookies and if Mick gets the job I have I have £95 coming my way.

Just found this from February 2016. Probably pants but it just adds to my post re Sven. The deal for Nikolic obviously never went through.

Nemanja Nikolić to partner Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan in Shanghai SIPG attack

Chinese giants Shanghai SIPG have completed the signing of Serbian-born Hungarian forward Nemanja Nikolic to support Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan upfront.
Nikolic, 28, banged in 23 goals in 22 appearances for Polish side Legia Warsaw making SIPG Sven-Goran Ericson to pay $17m for his signature.
The gangling Hungarian is an alternative for Carlos Tevez whom the club failed to sign earlier this week.
With his pace and artistry, Nikolic will offer the needed support to Gyan who remains the team’s arrow head as SIPG seek to wrestle the title from Guangzhou Evergrande.

"Gangling Hungarian"???? He's built like a fire plug. Must have been another Nikolic!!!

It would be a complete travesty if Phelan didn't get the job but what strikes me on here is most people assuming that the new owners will care about what the fans think. How do we know that they will give a **** about what we think. They may like Hull Tigers and want to bring their own choice of manager in regardless of what we want. I hope that is not the case but it would be just our luck.
