In some ways, we seemed to play like Leicester did last season. I don't think we could win the league, but, if we played like that every game, who knows how high we'd finish. In any case, it would be a joy to watch each week even if we lost a few games.
I'd like to see him given a chance. Apart from Colin he's the only one who's expressed a desire to manage us and I really don't want that ugly twat.
My god some rewriting of history now. We're a bad team for Leicester to play against. We played that three in the middle in the cup last season. We started off this season under Brucey with clucas in CM. so it was always going to continue. We still sat deep, we still played defensively. Leicester don't like that. Any supposed philosophy will change if/when we get a tonking. I'm all for phelan getting the job, phalanx on my I pad!!!
For now yes, then see how it goes. Sounds like a lot of known faces dident fancy a relegation battle without billions to spend or a potential stain on a CV so ****em. Allams OUT
No philosophy should change with a tonking. We kept a reasonable goal difference last time we went down and went down anyway. To try and depend on goal difference is completely defeatist and foolhardly. We were still pressing even towards the end of the Leicester game, it's funny how someone can't even see that.
I don't care if we get relegated - I just want us to play positive football & go down fighting. So, for me give the gaffa the job full time - he's earnt the chance
Look you're little Hull City, you're in the Premier League against much bigger teams with better players. You start every game with a point if you can hang onto that in every game at the end of the season you will have 38 points, it may just keep you up. Don't forget to dust yourselves and keep your boots on. All the best Steve
Whether he can step up to be a successful number one I guess TWT, but you need to have the chance to prove that, and for the moment I would give him that chance. There is no doubt he is tactically aware, and having seen most preseason games and Saturdays, there has been quite a significant change in how the players are warming up, playing and performing, IMO better than under SB. His management of the game Saturday was spot on, and it is nice to see him actively helping players with their tactics during the game.
Phelans in charge right now so gets my full support. What worries me though is the possibility of the Allams deliberately hanging on for this takeover knowing full well the August transfer window is fast approaching a shut down. Will this be welcomed by the new owners knowing full well they won't have to dig deep and kick start our season proper,or will they wade straight in if the deal goes through with an open cheque book or permission to sign a few loaners? One thing is for sure, failure to get players in is before the end of the month is paramount to instant relegation because as good as we were Saturday, that won't last forever with our depleted squad. Just saying like..
Interesting comment from Davies, who said that before we would score a goal then be expected to soak pressure, where as now they have been tood to take the game on and push forward. attack is best form of defence!! Lets give Phelan a shot, its obvious the others we interviewed turned us down anyway
Because we were markedly different in our style with him as number 2 compared to Queiroz his predecessor. Because I watched the games where he was often the one barking orders from the touchline and because he had a big influence particularly on our midfield coaching and tactics. Ofcourse Fergie had overall control but Phelan definitely had a say in how we set up and how we played. One clear example of that was to play Fletcher and Carrick as a midfield pairing. Changed the dynamics of our team and to a great deal our style of play. Doesnt mean you won't play decent football btw. What you did against Leicester was nullify their attack by not giving them any space in front to play into. Your midfield played a huge part in that. That's what Phelan is about first and foremost, but it doesn't mean his teams won't attack or score goals.
True in part, although we tore Boro and Burnley to peices last season at home. That said,City's actually tactics on Saturday were one of sit back deep and don't allow the pace of Leicester to hurt us with anything for them to chase over the top. It worked a treat, although on another day we could have been two down before we scored.
Playing Clucas as the holding midfielder was quite simply a master stroke. It brought energy in front of our defence and he's got a decent passing range in him.
Is it heart ruling head after Saturday I don't know? However Phelan deserves a chance with us, he has been a calming influence with the team. His tactics were absolutely spot on and we all pulled together. It was great to be there and witness it. By the way Allams Out.
I thought that was very telling, I heard a clip of Huddz on RH saying something similar this morning, he also said he thought Phelan should be appointed permanently.
The fact that pretty much all the players want Phelan tells you all you need to know. Perhaps it is his time? He seemed to make the very best of a very threadbare squad and got them playing for each other - I haven't seen that kind of unity at City for a while. Let him have the job, bring in the players and the backroom staff we desperately need. It will at least give us some continuity.
Until the ownership issue is resolved no manager of sound mind would consider the job anyway!!!!!!!!!!!! Therefore it's not a case of should we give the head coach job to Phelan, he is in the real world the only current candidate!!!!!!!! He gets my vote
