Has anyone brought up Benson's take on it? Vettel collision: A champion under pressure?l

Sebastian Vettel's behaviour during and after the Malaysian Grand Prix has been causing a bit of a fuss in Germany over the past few days.

The media have lapped up his response to his collision with backmarker Narain Karthikeyan, in much the same way as their British counterparts would have done with a similar incident involving Lewis Hamilton, and Vettel has come in for a fair bit of criticism.

It has also been pointed out that shots from Vettel's onboard camera appear to show the 24-year-old Red Bull driver giving Karthikeyan a middle-finger salute as he drives past. This has led some to call for him to be punished by governing body the FIA, which so far is keeping a low profile on the matter.

Comparisons have been drawn with McLaren's Jenson Button - who also failed to score any points in Malaysia, but who reacted with his usual calm.

Vettel, some in Germany have said, doesn't know how to lose.

One leading F1 figure told me: "It was completely Vettel's fault - he needed to give Karthikeyan more space. He only had to clear the last inch and he cut across the front of him. He was showing a bit of frustration and it bit him."

Certainly Vettel has found himself at the start of 2012 in a situation with which he is not familiar.

Vettel has had the fastest car in F1 since at least the middle of 2009, and he has used it to good effect.

But now things are different. Red Bull's new car is not a match for the McLaren, and it has also been behind one Mercedes and one Lotus on the grid in each of the first two races.

For a man who is as driven to win - to dominate even - as Vettel is, that will not be a comfortable situation.

Nor will it have escaped his attention that team-mate Mark Webber has so far out-qualified him in both races this year - again, quite a turnaround from 2011, when the Australian managed it only three times in 19 grands prix.

In a thread not so long ago, it was questioned how Vettel would react to being behind and having to chase the WDC with expectations on him to do so.

He has not silenced the critics............
 
Karthikayen decided that the Blue Flag rules didn't actually apply to him, there's a reason he's had to throw ****loads of money to get HRT to do a couple of races, it's because he's absolutely ****. I can't be bothered to 'debate' with people who ignore the evidence of their own eyes tbh, it's quite clear what happened, which is why one of them has a penalty and one of them doesn't.

2010, had the best car and people were questioning his ability to win the WDC from the halfway point. Had talk at every GP hearing people on all sides saying: "where would Alonso or Lewis be in that car"

It affected his form until he got his head together after Monza.

For me it was an accident by Narain, if he was looking in front he would of seen vettel and would of not slashed his tyre.
 
When Webber smashed into the back of Koveleinen, and instantly went on camera bitching and moaning about Heikki (even though it was Webbers fault) he was being 'honest' and 'straight-talking'. Vettel calls a back marker he'd lapped who then drove into him an idiot, and what a furore'.

Well, Miggins; surely you'd agree that there is a difference in the professionalism of "bitching and moaning" to causing offence and being abusive? Even within F1, one is acceptable where the other is not. Remember the maxim, "It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it"?

It's a bit like disagreeing with someone in a forum: there are ways of making one's point but there are also boundaries one should respect.

To be fair...There are a number of double standards when it comes to certain incidents. It seems that those that fight at the sharp end do take a lot more flack when they go off on one, when in reality it is an indication of their desire to win and for that we really shouldn't drag them over the coals.

In all honesty... I'd likely go off on one too when it all went tits up. I'd cool down later and likely regret it, but what's done is done at that point.

As somebody said earlier (think it was Kyle) it shows he is human after all and not just some corporate robot.

I for one like too see that temperamental side of a driver, so I'd be a hypocrite to really slag off Vettel for his actions.
 
He said last night that he'd caused some problems on the football boards. If he's banned I hope it's a temporary cooling off period. He does go over the top when he has a drink but he's generally a good contributor.
 
I did find it funny with regard to peoples opinions on the driver who was also involved.

Vettels Rant: Narain is an idiot, the public the day before would of agreed with him as very few people rated him to do something noteworthy and considered him the most pay "driveresque" of the lot. Now he is viewed by the public as a victim of "big bully Seb" and now deserves better when getting lapped for the 3rd time. Talk about a popularity shift! Seb called him an idiot and has kept his mouth shut since while Narain has made 2 direct pops at Seb afterwards calling him "unprofessional" and a "crybaby", yeah a rich boy calling a working class driver like Seb a "crybaby" that's rich with his family background.

Lewis Rant Monaco 2011: Calls Massa and Maldonado useless, schumacher a dirty cheater and plays a bit of a low blow race joke with the stewards. The public still thought Massa was a twat, same with Maldonado and that he is a clear cut pay driver. They still said Schumacher was a dirty cheater and deserved those insults and somehow it's possible that the stewards do have it out for Lewis with regard to his skin colour. To top it off Lewis' Dad had to drag him back after 2-3 hours, suggesting him to say sorry towards all the stewards.

Yeah... He did say that.

I've had my run ins with Kyle but you can get some funnies and some decent debate when he's not sauced up. He's also had the grace to apologize after the event.

It's the only other rant I can pick out involving a high profile driver like Seb. I know it looks like I'm only pointing it out but I just cant think of another one that got so much media attention.

I'm not trying to bring Lewis involved, I'm just trying to put a decent comparison with 2 high profile drivers.
 
This isn't about Lewis vs Vettel, it's about opinion to Lewis rant compared with Vettel rant.

I'm not trying to say something out of this, I just find it funny in my opinion that in 1 situation the mass consensus still thought Massa and co were still how they were orginally portrayed. Yet this time with Vettel, Narain is considered the victim with the same kind of media attack as Lewis did.

Massa: Still ****
Maldonado: Pay driver and ****
Schumacher: Stinking cheater
Stewards: Pigs who have it out for Lewis

Narain: Clear cut victim.


That's what I'm just trying to point out.
