anybody here know if you can claim this when your 16. Thought it was only 18 an over which is stupid but been told otehrwise by somebody?
 
Hope this helps:

Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) is a benefit open to most people over the age of 18 who are unemployed, not in education and looking for work. You could also be eligible if you have a job where you work less than 16 hours every week.
If you're under 18, or if you're a student, it's unlikely you will be entitled to the allowance.
If you're 16 or 17, you will only be able to receive Jobseeker’s Allowance in exceptional circumstances. For example, estrangement from your family leading to severe hardship. If you think that you might have exceptional circumstances, contact your nearest Jobcentre Plus office.

According to direct.gov, you can claim for JSA via

contribution-based JSA. You can get this for up to six months if you have been working and have paid enough national insurance contributions within the last couple of years. It is paid just for you.

income-based JSA. You might get this type of JSA if your income and savings are*low enough.*There is no time limit on receiving this. You do*not need to have paid*any national insurance contributions. But if you have a partner they must either not be working, or working fewer than 24 hours a week.

You reach your 16th birthday and 1st thing you aspire to is finding out what benefits you're entitled to. How about the unthinkable. getting a job, I know, it sounds like madness and is probably very old fashioned but it's what people used to do and it gave them some self esteem together with a purpose in life.

So in conclusion, either go on the game unless your a fat ugly ****er in which case you can always try flipping burgers at a fast food chain <added benefit of maintaining your regular diet> <ok>
