He'd be a good option for a number of clubs but for some reason seems to have 'adopted' us and taken to the club like a duck to water. He was signed as our primary striker, I believe, but the unprecedented form of Pukki soon put paid to that. I hope we can agree terms with both him and Wednesday for a permanent transfer.
Excellent Cromer and I REALLY believe that this would be in the same category as the news on Klose yesterday. He won't get many opportunities to play, but his past experience etc could be invaluable to the younger members of the squad. PD's thoughts - https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/canaries-jordan-rhodes-sheffield-wednesday-interest-1-6061213
28% of those who voted don't want him to stay - that's nearly a third, of a decent enough number of votes to be representative. https://readnorwich.com/2019/05/21/rhodes-open-to-permanent-norwich-move/?poll-results=1
But it's nearer a measily quarter of the vote! As with all transfers, if the price and contract are right for Webber and the club, then no objections. I'm just not too sure they can be, given his old Wendy wages. Bah!
But nearly 3/4 want him to stay, including me (and I haven't voted yet). Not sure how representative the RN blog is.
A brand new striker of his ability and record would be about £10m in today's market. Plus he's already "gelled " and moved his family down. Perfect fit with not much risk , if he takes a pay cut then we'll sign him I reckon. He won't want to move again I doubt and prem football has alluded him
Precisely. This is what those 28% don't seem to grasp. I don't know what they do expect to be honest, given our limited resources. I'd vote for him.
Sheffield sources say he's on £38.5k a week, which is not exhorbitant for a PL striker (we've been paying that this year). It's more about the fee, IMO. They're said to want £4.5m against the £3m we're said to have offered. £3.75-£4m may be the compromise.
Sounds about right and leaves us time for a Sir Benny upgrade from the continent for a fraction of that
A classic example of a lazy blogger quoting inaccurate stats: https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/0...riking-a-summer-deal-for-this-popular-figure/ Fortunately his error was pointed out in detail by Justin Barber in the comments below the blog, thus saving me the trouble. "Very good point that I was about to make! 36 appearances, but 1017 mintues = 28.25 minutes per game. So your 0.8 shots equates to 2.54 shots per game over 90 minutes. Just to compare, Pukki was 3.3 over the season. When you add in the fact that he was coming on as sub most of the time, with little chance to get "into" a game and NCFC were probably defending a lead by that point most of the season, 2.54 SpG looks pretty good to me. Che Adams was 2.5 over the season - context is everything! All of this is on WhoScored.com, btw, if you're a stats nut."
Exactly this ... And Webber will be weighing this deal up with his options from the recruitment team.
In addition to being a perfect fit, he adds another option up front which contrasts with Pukki and Srbeny. Being 'homegrown' also helps, particularly if we fail to stay up and have to face losing Pukki and other key players. Any foreign player coming in would be a gamble, especially in the PL. When Pukki was injured, Rhodes stepped in with 3 goals in 3 wins keeping us in contention for the rest of the season. His experience will be vital in the PL. As for SW's options, he may well need to sort the striker issue before other decisions can be made. We need another wide player to compete with Hernandez and back up Buendia, which IMO is a bigger priority than the back up striker. With another RB needed, we may have enough money for a DM option if we spend wisely on the striker required.
Spot on Rick - his brace against the Villains and his equaliser at The Hawthorns were three of the most important goals we scored last season imo. I'd love him to stay.
Well if 52% is a big enough majority to make a decision then the percentage wanting him to stay is much higher than that so... Also it's not just about the actual play but what he can bring to the club such as morale/team building, working with the youngsters and mentoring. Where a decent player can become worth more than their wages if they help bring through a handful of youngster over their contract time.
7M - Nope. He's a fantastic lad, I would love him to stay. "Sheffield Wednesday want rid of Rhodes" "Sheffield Wednesday want 7M for Rhodes" Doesn't really add up. If he was out of contract, then yes. All day long. 7M for a player who barley got minutes off the bench in the Championship, and we prepare for the Premiership? Can't see it.
It sounds like there was a loan-to-buy deal in place whereby we could buy his contract for £7mil and that's the figure Wednesday have stuck in their minds. Stuart will have to disabuse them of that idea.
