was pretty lucky really have a tracer bullet scar just below my left ear on my cheek bone, could tell a lot of stories but tend not to in case people think your bragging my dad was a para as well dropped at Arnhem we used to go there together to take part in the drop, but moved to Amsterdam after my divorce spent 18 years there and move to germany for retirement.
Yep. I did speak with someone who had been there and it was fine until someone else asked him about the scariest moment he had had there. He could hardly get the words out, turned out his buddy was killed in the incident. This was maybe 20 years later and his voice was still shaking. I prefer being a keyboard warrior but thank heavens some do more.

Also that reminds me, neighbour of mine in Portsmouth area was a cpo on Fearless, came back unscratched but his poor wife went through hell when the ships started going down.

Is there any truth in the stories of that lunatic Col H Jones getting wasted by his own men Roger, ? i read that he was ****ing barmy and got more of his men killed sending them over the top to be picked off by the Argies, so one of the lads did him in to save lives the **** thought he was Rambo

To be serious, as a non combatant in anything more risky than the under 5’s egg and spoon race, I take my hat off to anyone who did what you did.
Serious? You talk about serious and then about egg and spoon races. Listen, mate, when i was five you didn't f*ck about, you went for the jugular and your egga nd spoon had to be first across that line. Anyone got in your way they died.

I went to a snowflake academy, all the kids were winners. Thought you’d know that.

His name is Glory, lives in Harrogate i believe <whistle>

nobody had that name with us suggest it must be a pork pies merchant have you seen a pic of him in his para smock or asked him his first 4 numbers or what barracks he was stationed at in what year.
if he is a real para he will know the name of the word we use jogging from point A to B, suggest he is a blow hard though best ignore him and his fantasies

I was taking the piss mate,
I thought you may remember Glory, obviously not, even he would have seen the humour in that comment.

i read some years ago that Jones was a lunatic and got a few of his lads killed as a result, him getting shot in the back may have perpetuated the story, what was the daft **** doing, running away from the Argies?

I guess the jokes thread has gone off topic, but in a fascinating way. Big respect to you and your dad Makem.

Arnhem FFS. Was your dad a POW, or one of the few that got back across the river?

You believe any **** that thrown at you OLOF. Bloody story was old when it was reported and no-one really believed it, well, almost no-one.
Im not a senile old **** like you thats why i asked the man the question of whether there is any truth in the story, that doesnt mean i believed it, you should carefully read peoples posts before you jump in and make a bigger **** out of yourself than you already are
