Pretty sure I've told this story on here before, so the shortened version is a workmate went south to work in Manchester. On his first return, he firmly stated: "FFS, we think we hate the english - the guys in N.england hate them even more than us"! What he clarified was a surprise to us, as we had a common enemy - not the 'english', but the establishment (mostly english, but Scottish too, I might add). Hopefully this might clear things up for anyone a bit too precious about this.
