I've never understood why anyone rates him as a commentator. He really grates on me. I'm listening to him commentate on 5 Live for the QPR v Villa game and he's even worse on the radio!

As someone who is doesnt have Sky, a lot of my live football is listened to on 5live. At least Motson focuses on the game and not on himself and his current football related obsessive peeve - like that t**t Alan Green.

Don't get me started on him..... I can no longer stand to listen to his commentory on any game

Alan Green needs to have proper sex with girls and/or smoke one off.

Motson probably does too.

As do I.

I agree For years I have refused to listen to his commentary on live TV games like cup finals and England matches preferring to watch Tv with the radio on.
But what really sealed for me was on motd when he said we were playing in orange and black stripes. How stupid for someone who is supposed to have an encyclopedic knowledge of football.
What a to$$er.

Clarridge annoys me the most, I can't stand his voice, Pleat isn't much better and Green is simply a twat.

Motson used to okay, but seems to have gone downhill, probably time for him to call it a day.

Jesus some of you lot are right precious bastards.

You won't listen to Motson's commentary because he once said we play in Orange and black stripes on motd?

Give your head a shake ffs!

There's only two voices I recognise when it comes to commentary and they're savage's or that ginger bloke off talk sport.

Much the same way as actors in movies, I pay very little attention to who they are, what they look like/sound like etc.

If the commentator talks a load of balderdash I'll just think 'what a dong'.

I could probably listen to 100 games in a row with the same commentator and not notice.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Mark Lawrenson he literally will talk about anything but the game, I think it was an England game when he started talking about the food they had in the hotel the night before - You're paid to talk about the football you utter twat.

Andy Townsend is another instead of analysing the game he says things anyone else watching the game could say like 'he should have passed it then because Rooney was in'

Commentators and pundits are mainly for people that never go to live games.

Motson was voted top commentator with Linneker seconds and Moore third - Kamara was next??!!

I liked Martin Tyler myself but the old war-horse who never got a mention was the granddaddy of them all in Raymond Glendenning. He could commentate on anything and I just loved the Boxing on the old 'steam radio' with inter-round summaries by W. Barrington "Barry" Dalby. Raymond would finish every round with "Come in Barry"!

Kamara! Loved his faux pas.

Adrian Durham is the absolute worst.

You take that back! The worst is Peter Drury, who is so bad that my tablet wants to autocorrect his name to "Drunk".

Martin Tyler's low-key style is more to my taste. And on 5 Live, John Murray is excellent.

Yeah I know what you mean about David Pleat. I recall Cloughie having a similar opinion too. There was a match where Cloughie was one of the pundits and at half-time Cloughie was asked his opinion about a number of very controversial incidents that had happened. 'Never mind all that' was Cloghie's reply 'someone should tell that young man (Pleat) that what we are playing on is GRASS and not GRARRRSS'. Followed by '....and that was a PASS not a PARRRSS'. Top man Cloughie!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Arsenal MOTD commentary. Motson, throughout the second half, referred to the Jak as 'Hull's substitute keeper! Pr@! Claridge does get on my nerves but only when he's on the FLS on the Beeb. That's probably more to do with having a choice between him and Liam's dad ;-) When he's on the radio he's usually the more sensible of the ex-pros they have on.
