That is a fantastic point.

Everyone has an opinion on the incident, and I've kept fairly quiet because I agree with the majority of toon fans- Barton started it, but his was a YC offence, whereas EVERYONE knows as soon as you raise your hand to someone's face, you're off. Barton went down easy, but he went down justifiably, and I don't think that's cheating. Imagine if he stayed on his feet and the ref didn't send Gervinho off because he didn't see it properly?

However marcus, a great point in the aftermath, is that yes it was Barton who committed the initial offence for the yellow card, and therefore yes, he has fouled Gervinho in the penalty box, and it should be a yellow for Barton, a red for Gervinho, and a penalty for Arsenal because that's when the play stopped.

This is what i'd say. Top comment <ok>

I think it was given as a newcastle free kick as Newcastle were in posesstion (sp?) and the ref treated it as a break in play rather than a foul (doesn't make much sense really but its the best i can think off)
 
To be honest lads I am an SAFC fan but you know whats wrong with all of this. Barton just cheated well, he knows the system and how to use it to his advantage. If the ref's were tougher on diving and on players raising their hands we would not get all the drama and play acting. I hate cheating and it seems like a massive part of the game. IMO when Barton when down like a baby he cheated but did not break any rules of the game and that's the problem.

It's the sheer HYPOCRACY of the prick saying Gervinho dived when in actual fact his ankles WERE clipped but then he himself dived to the floor like a puff! He then signalled when getting up that he was PUNCHED! And Taylor (another prick) was making out Barton was elbowed ffs....
 
The thing with the penalty is though I have always thought diving was a free kick and a yellow card to the other team, so when the referee decided it was a dive from gervinho surely he would have to give a free kick to Newcastle first.

Saying the refs never do give free kicks for diving, stupid really.

Damn, the game's been put back a day and I didn't even know about it? I could have been waiting outside the ground for 24 hours if I hadn't come on here and found out.
