Nice one, it is just a pity you made an assumption that everyone had seen that and, therefore, understood the context of your single line 'joke'. Stewart Lee worked very hard to construct the context and then stay in character, you didn't, but I now understand.
I would have typed out the 14-minute transcript but I've had a busy day.
As I have said on the other post (partially), it is down to the context of the joke, its delivery and the taste of the audience. I have never heard the 'blind' joke, as delivered by Clarkson, so I can't honestly comment.
No one. I was talking about people working at the BBC who read the Guardian influencing things.you mentioned the owner being the ones who influenced things so I presumed you thought they must work there.

OT but I'd love to know the ratio of success from petitions. Everyone seems to start one about anything but how many actually influence policy? All 350,000 people signing this shows me that there are loads of ****s in the world.

I think the 1.8million who signed the anti-road charging petition a few years ago had a decent influence. Hopefully this one will do the same.
Over 400,000 signed now. That shows me that at least 400,000 people are not ****s. It's easy to make sweeping assertions like that.
They have 400m weekly viewers? I guess it's just about possible if you're talking global figures.

How do they know? Maybe people were out and had just left the telly on so burglars would think they were in?
Earlier on the outrage was about telling a grandfather that one had carnal knowledge of his granddaughter, now it's oversensitive to be outraged when joking about almost being blinded as a child.
