Reactions: Party Hull!
He's apparently had a bust up with the producer, an top gear won't be airing this Sunday.

Sort it out ffs BBC, sack the producer, he's obviously a ****.

For once you are about spot on with ^^^^^^ this.:emoticon-0102-bigsm

How dare the BBC take off the best programme on mainstream tv ?

I bet the producer is a dooooo gooder / leader of the pc brigaide. <doh>

Clarkson for PM.

I've often wondered, on a channel with no advertising, why are ratings important and how does one more popular programme make them more money than a a less popular one?

The money comes from supplementary stuff: DVD sales, books etc, and of course selling rights to air it in other countries. The latter used to be the domain of nature shows and kids' stuff like Teletubbies (neither of which are that dependent on English), but Top Gear is the biggest rights money-spinner these days.

[EDIT: To answer the ratings question, I don't think they should be important to the Beeb, but it disagrees. I think if it doesn't make shows that get high ratings, it fears the Daily Mail will scream that it's not catering to the masses and it will struggle with charter renewal/licence fee cuts.]

Makes you wonder what happened.

He's been racist on the show and caused uproar in Argentina (yeah they still deny it) and got away with both - yet suspended for an argument with some producer.

i think Clarkson is a victim of his own TV persona .
His 'slope' comment was a tongue in cheek reference ,relating back a distant time in the 40s that im not sure many people would have noticed the double endende
Also the producer and editor would have had chance to cut the phrase , His eenie meenie phrase never made the final cut for the show and is somewhat irrelevant , im sure he never would have intended it for broadcast making it most likely a private joke amongst the crew - unfortunately for him not deleted .

I used to like Top Gear but it dumbed down after Hammonds accident in 2005/6 ish and i lost interest in the specials as everything now seemed staged .

So you think, if ratings, don't matter, that the BBC should spend a lot of money making programmes nobody watches apart from Guardian readers?
Of course there was a when BBC, and ITV for that matter, made interesting informative programmes that were watched by huge audiences. Now it is dumbed down stuff for a generation with the attention span of a goldfish.

Agree with you there. I lost interest with the staged goings on. But if other people enjoy it good luck to them. It really is sad to read people who don't watch it complaining so much about. I don't like Jonathon Ross or Russell Brand so I don't watch them or spend time commentating on them (except in this instance to illustrate my point:biggrin:).

The program has past it's best in the UK, but in many parts of the world it's a huge hit. Out here the locals find it a refreshing change to their traditional auto shows which largely promote the brands whose importers pay the most. Sometimes it's like one long commercial. As for Top Gear, on the rare occasions when they do actually review a car it's generally an honest opinion and not afraid to call it rubbish if they think it is.

The programme is past it's best. Staged stunts. Let it go and I suspect this will be the end. Hammond is an annoying tit. Clarkson not pc but funny, May not sure of role, punchbag?

So that'll be another ****e period drama in the pipeline to replace Top Gear then.

He'll be back on once the beeb starting losing money. Their whole schedule is garabge apart from MOTD.
