I vaguely recall Brian Cox saying something, on his programme the other week, about some theory that we could eventually move any industrial activity that is still required to the moon (or maybe Mars), leaving earth to only environmentally friendly activities.

No they are not. It is just taking very rich people to the edge of space and nothing to do with technological advances.

As was air travel when it first started. When we can start moving large numbers of people around the solar system regularly the whole thing opens up to us. Sub orbital hops will revolutionize travel here too.
 
Would that affect global warming?

No but it'll affect global consumption (which means it will in a roundabout way, I suppose)

Global warming isn't going to be fixed by trying to reduce emissions. There are too many countries not interested in doing that. It's going to have to be a technological solution.
