Sublime when he was on his game but a frustrating player to watch when you could see quite clearly he just couldn't be asked.

Jay seems to split Bluebird opinions on reflection. At the right price do you think he would be worth bringing back?

For me he is too much of a primadonna who needs his ego massaged even when he spends most of his time sat on his arse during games. I personally will never forgive him for leaving the field 15 mins into the playoffs. I don't think he could be bothered that day and the rest is history. Add to that his attitude following his England call up and dip in club form.

According to stats he's scored just 1 in 14 in the league this season. Hardly setting the world on fire.

You watch him play the game of his life on Sunday.
 
I think he might well have a big game but as we all know all too well, if Jay isn't enjoying it 15-20 minutes in, then Wednesday will be effectively playing with 10 men.

Lets make sure he has a really tough start to the game and hopefully the difference in form and quality between the 2 sides should come shining through!
 
That play off defeat was Jones fault.

Bothroyd was injured - end of.

Problem was the manager could only play 1 system and had no idea what to do without Bothroyd.

He went off and he attempted to use the same system with Etuhu and left the man who should have come on the bench - McCormack.

Jay Bothroyd was a superb player for Cardiff and is a massive danger on Sunday.

My worry about Sunday is Jones just when you thought he was about to get sacked he got a result.
 
<laugh> I had a sneaking suspicion you might say something like that Hilts.

Others I've spoken to would also take him back and feel he's the big striker that's lacking for this squad.

I really think his best days are behind him.

We'll have to disagree on the playoff injury m8. Someone within the club told me a while back he just wasn't up for the game. How true it is, is anyones guess. I know what I feel. <ok>
 
I do believe he was genuinely injured in that game and I loved him for his time at us and what he gave to the team however I wouldn't take him back because he left us and we've moved on and he wont match his previous form I don't think anyone would benefit from it really.
 
Bothroyd was a classy player with huge ability and brought another dimension to the club. The problem is that all the abilty in the world will rarely overcome a flawed playing attitude. His petulance and inclination to give up was something we saw all too often.

He's a big lad, but for all his physical size, he never put himself about like Kevin Davies for instance. I realise there's a major difference in skill levels between those two, but a bit more selflessness from Jay would have made him a top player.

In fact, if you'e only got to look at our present front man to see the difference in attitudes. Jay's technical ability with Helguson's body-on-the-line committment would have made him a world beater.

Would I have him back? If he was still early 20's it would be a yes, but he's 30 now and although the skill will still be there, I doubt he'll ever come to terms with his attitude issues.
 
With regard to Betty's 'injury' in that play-off, I was led to believe that he had been playing for a number of games with a pain killing injection in his foot but that on the day of the final he refused to have the injection.
The result of that decision was inevitable, and he must have known that when he went on the pitch.
That and the stupid miskick that actually gave the tangerines their 3rd goal cost us the game and the glory.
Would I welcome him back - - NO!

It's irrelevant now but if thats true...what a twat! The one game you would WANT an injection is surely the biggest game of that season?
 
he is the definition of a player with an ego H. the opposite of what malky wants, he's got the ability but theres a risk his ****ty attitude could spread amongst other team mates - thats why he was never going to end up here.

good player for us, did a very good job and moved on, so have i.
