Yeah OK then. Spain can't find a place in their SQUAD for the likes of David de Gea, Juan Mata, Javi Garcia, Fernando Llorente or Ãlvaro Negredo, yet we have to make up the numbers in ours with the likes of Jack Butland, Ryan Shawcross, Jonjo Shelvey and Andy Carroll. As if that wasn't bad enough, in recent years we've had Kevin Davies and Jay Bothroyd win caps because there's been such a dearth of quality for such a long time
Spain have an amazing squad but they're judged by their awesome ability, not the leagues they play in. Just because someone doesn't play for a big club, doesn't mean they aren't good. I mean how much have you seen of Butland really? I'm not saying we have an amazing national team, just that you can't judge a squad by the leagues each individual player plays in, or their clubs even.
I've seen enough of all of the players in England's squad to know who is and isn't good enough for international football. Glen Johnson, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck aren't good enough either, though I will concede that the latter may improve.
If those players aren't good enough, then what about the other 200 nations who have teams made up of 23 players a lot worse than them, many probably worse than City's players? It's easy to forget that Spain are in the minority in being awesome. Most countries are a lot worse than us.
Cleverley will be good enough pretty soon, reminds me of Lampard who didn't get going in his career till about the same age.
