There’s the rub. You either do a Wolves/Boro as an owner and invest in a name manager and some players and take the huge gamble that it works and you get to the PL, and then you use the PL money to stay there. If it doesn’t work you have stored up some big problems for yourself, expensive failed players on contracts, FFP etc. Or you are pretty skint, don’t want to gamble and hope to hang around in the Championship long enough to have a great season by mistake. Of course, you might also drop down a League as well. We have found ourselves in the second category because we tried the first and ****ed it up at the worst possible time, before the PL money hit the truly insane levels and exactly when the FL had its most punitive version of FFP in place.
