I really hope that this is not going to create much hubris but I don't see Jellavic doing too much. Bloody Shane Long almost always seems to score against us so let's hope his move doesn't get sorted until Sunday.

Credit to Hull though - they may be about to be turned into the Tiger Franchise but they are steps to ensure that they don't slide back down the table following their decent start to the season.

On another note I am very pleased with our getting JG on loan - excellent addition to the squad and presumably funds in place should CH want to bring in a player capable of starting in the first XI

Myth!!

Long has scored one goal against us across 5 premier league games and an FA Cup match. And that was a penalty.
So I'm not bothered...

I've probably gone and talked it up now...

Long and jelavic vs hooper and RvW? interesting

i'm with Long on Rob, he's revered for the goal for Reading that pretty much sent us to League 1. blows hot and cold

Be interesting to see how he gets on, he is indeed highly rated but he's not played a proper competitive match in a long time so I'm looking forward to seeing how he adapts to first team football

Was excellent when on loan at Feyenoord. Did he suffer from illness for a long time? Maybe glandular fever, that has stunted his progress.

No Hoolahan in tonight's squad. Is that because we're limited to only using the 18-man squad from the first leg, or for other reasons? I know Gutierrez isn't eligible, but is that just because he wasn't at the club for the first game?

To answer my own question, he would have been eligible:

FA Cup rule 15f said:
All players must have been eligible to play in the original tie in order to play in a replayed or postponed match; however a player who has been suspended according to the disciplinary procedures under the Rules of The Association may play in a postponed or replayed match after the term of his suspension has expired.

That's not going to help speculation!

Has he played for the Toon in the cup this season? If so, would that mean he's cup-tied?

EDIT: he has not played in the FA Cup for the Toon this season.

That is quite interesting, could just be that CH doesn't want him injured for the Hull match, can't see DM allowing a GH and WH reunion.

Gutierrez isn't cup-tied, but you have to have been eligible for the first game to play in replays. Should we go through he can play against Sheffield United.

I presume Hoolahan's shaken off the injury that kept him out last time, as he made the bench against Everton. If he's not in line to start against Hull, I don't see the point not at least including him...

where did you read that DH - is there a link to what the 18 man is?

There's a provisional 19 man squad that often appears at the end of match previews. I'd assumed that was something the club released, with the extra player simply to cover illness/injury. On a couple I'd read today Hoolahan wasn't included, when previously I've found them quite accurate. having now seen tonight's squad, I don't believe them to be accurate any more! Much stronger bench than I expected, a lot of the youngsters who made the bench in the first leg aren't included.

Yeah, screwed me over too, I thought it'd be a similar strength of side. I guess we have got Hoolahan and Johnson back from injury now though.
