We need bodies in
Unfortunately we can't pay big money for them all.
We have a very thin week squad

When people on here keep saying that Moyes is trying to replicate the success he had at Everton I didn't think that he would be trying to do it with the old players he had there at that time.
He's seeking comfort in the familar. Typical behaviour of someone who is feeling under pressure.

Its interesting because I read the other day that he had long lists of potential transfer targets from every league and/or division when he was at Everton. He doesn't seem to be consulting those lists now. At least if he's bringing in players he knows well, he isn't taking risks on unknown quantities with our limited resources.

Taken from Sky Sports:

POTENTIAL SUNDERLAND TARGETS?

Swansea City's Neil Taylor and Everton's Bryan Oviedo and Darron Gibson have been earmarked as potential Sunderland signings once Patrick van Aanholt joins Crystal Palace, writes the Newcastle Chronicle.

6 days left. If he goes tomorrow even. that's 5 days left. If it's looking on, Palace could just draw this out and leave us no time to do anything. Sale, if its happening should be on condition we have someone signing at same time.

Sunderland will rival their former boss Dick Advocaat, now manager of Fenerbahce, in the race to sign Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam, 31.(Sun)

The Black Cats are also considering making a bid for QPR's 30-year-old former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha.(Daily Telegraph)

I'd love us to sign Adam - ****ing hate the bloke but he's got a quality left foot on him and can pick a pass! Also a dirty sly little bastard too!!

Charlie Adam will be pissing himself laughing at the thought of joining a team heading straight for the Championship.

It shouldn't be the case but even he is a level to far for us, now. We need players to join who are prepared to play in the Championship, so we probably need to be shopping in that league.

Not getting a great deal of game time for Stoke though and he's a position we urgently need and he's 31 - not likely to get another big move IMO.

I'd be surprised to see him go to Turkey, in all honesty, and think he'd be good for us too.

"Charlie, how do you fancy coming to Sunderland for the rest of the season, if we stay up, there's a nice fat bonus for you. If we do go down and a PL club come in for you then you can go?"

This is what it's come to, begging Charlie Adam to come and try keep us up.

31 is nothing these days, mate. He is still performing in the Premier league and I've no doubt could still get plenty of better offers than Sunderland. We look all over the shop to everybody looking in and the reality is, teams like Newcastle and Brighton would be better prospects than Sunderland, at the moment. Robbie Brady knocked us straight back, but he's happy to talk with Burnley and Palace. It will be the same with any half decent player.

We'll have to keep making do with pensioners or injury crocks, or shop in the Championship.

He'd be a cracking player for us mate.

I just think he's got another few years before he turns into a player who would consider a move like this.

Somebody has to buy the club, it's the only way now. Short has clearly had enough.

Well it's the FFP that's stopping him spending supposedly, there's three ways of looking at that.

1. He's making sure whoever comes in as new owners do not face a big fine for overspending. That's a sensible approach to be fair.

2. He's not prepared to personally guarantee any losses, or subsequent fines. This would increase the debt owed to him no doubt.

3. He's a liar... which he is, cos Moyes told you all that, but a bigger liar.

There is an exercise to be done, looking at your finances if you drop, estimate around £80m on players sales and slashing the wage bill by around £20m selling/offloading some high earners.

That would put you in the Championship with £100m TV package money and £80m cash and £20m savings. Not a bad purse to start again with.

With an owner who wants to sell, there's no certainties of how much of that cash would be reinvested or if he'd just cut his losses, pocket the lot and sell at a lower price. I think the fans and how they deal with the next few months may have an impact on how it would unfold.

He has to make it salable, to any buyer and things like paying £1m for N'Dong, like Bri said, with £13m or so still outstanding, is only going to make it less so imo.

I was hoping we would have sold Lens to Fenerbahce by now and had that money available. Maybe it would put them off from going after Adam depending on their budget.

I have to believe there's a way we can find money to at least buy Adam even if we are skint. He'd be very useful and not expensive for what he'd bring.

Looks like Chelsea are going to pay for the GK that you released, Craig Gordon, probably to replace Begovic.
