Am torn on this. Picking up cast offs from other teams got us into trouble in the past (Scowen, Lafferty, Lynch etc) but I can see the merit in a short term signing to provide a focal point up front.
If Martin is good enough, why have Bristol City released him?

I read in some article about some very experienced strikers, eg big club big games who are on a free. They are around 30 or above and might want a higher wage. But for a short term contract, 4 months, I thought this would not break the model.

Well it will break the model but only for four months.

I tried to remember where I saw it, but some ex Real Madrid or Barcelona etc players who had/were in the USA. Tbh I only vaguely knew their names.
But no not league 1/Championship has beens.

Pretty much my view. Saw him a couple of times in his last few months at Derby and he looked slow then to me. Doubt he has improved in the interim. Cant imagine him being a fit for us at all to be honest. QPR obviously think differently, so time will tell for them.

No chance would Mullin be good enough for our league and he's got a **** attitude. There's a guy who plays for Notts County in the same league who has scored more than Mullin. Wouldn't want him, neither.

I don’t know the guy other than what I’ve seen of him on Welcome to Wrexham but he strikes me of being like a Chris Maguire type. No problem with that but I just don’t feel he’s a match for the Sunderland team.

Plus I think he likes being a big fish in a small pond (again I don’t have anything to back this up but it’s a feeling I get)

This is true. He was promoted from league 2 with Cambridge so he would have had a go at playing in league 1, but instead decided to transfer to Wrexham in the National league.

Sunderland striker target Andras Nemeth has revealed he opted to join Hamburg instead as he felt his development was better served with the Bundesliga.2 club.

According to The Sunderland Echo, the 20-year-old was a key target heading into the window, but despite holding talks with the Black Cats opted to join the German side instead.

Speaking to HSV24, the Hungary international revealed why he opted for a move to Hamburg, which ultimately caused the breakdown of a potential Sunderland deal.

He said: “It was very concrete with Sunderland, but I made the decision to come to Hamburg because I think that the project here is better for me and my development.”

Due to his expiring contract, Hamburg were able to land Nemeth for a fee in the region of €750,000 (£670k) from KRC Genk.

He’s made a fast start to life in Bundesliga.2, scoring once in just five minutes of football.

Sunderland signed Joe Gelhardt in the January window, but the season-ending injury to Ross Stewart and Everton’s decision to recall Ellis Simms means that the Leeds United loanee is now Tony Mowbray’s only striker.

The Black Cats are ninth in the Championship after their 1-1 draw with Millwall on Saturday.

The Verdict

Nemeth has the right to make decisions about his future based on what is best for him, but Sunderland fans may well feel frustrated at this reasoning.

Lots has been made of Mowbray’s record at developing young players and plenty are flourishing at the Stadium of Light right now.

Given Stewart’s subsequent injury, Nemeth likely would have seen plenty of game time as well.

The North East club can’t really be blamed for missing out on him, but questions have been asked about why they didn’t bring in an alternative.
