i honestly can not get my ****ing head round not learning from the lessons of this season mind. Having two strikers both injured at the same time and not recruiting a 3rd in the summer you can maybe forgive .But to now go into the remainder of the season with one forward not even a striker is shocking .

It’s pretty mental to think we don’t have a striker available to us for the rest of this season who has ever played for Sunderland

It's just absolutely ****e if we are being honest.

It's been positive of late but surely we can all remember the absolute rank form and probably be banging on about no striker. We are pretty much there again. Main part of the season, 54 points to play for !

We could have done with a midfielder too. The striker situation is so desperate you forget about the rest of the pitch.

We’re not going down and that’s a result for this season.
With our attacking talent we’ll score goals without a number 9.
Missing the playoffs (if we do) is not the end of the world. The players who are still here next season will be more experienced and all round better. With a couple of good strikers in next season we’ll make a real push for top two.
It’s happy days for me.
And I hope Simms scores the goals to keep Everton up.

Exactly this!!! a plodder better than no one. Just someone to jump for the ball up top and hold it up. Goes miles further than jack Clarke playing there. We couldn’t break Shrewsbury Town down until Stewart came on. I think it’s important to call mistakes out.

Absolutely agree. The evidence is there in terms of points achieved and performances viewed with eyes.

We just need an option. An actual 9. A loan to get us through to re consider options in the summer. All of our attacking players player better when playing off a 9. I won't accept a single player in world football was not available on a loan.
It’s pathetic that we lost simms on 31 December and he hasn’t been replaced.

it’s pathetic that the last forward we signed permanently was Ross Stewart 2 years ago.

Why bring in a plodder tho? If the right player isnt available then lets develop our quality youngsters

It wouldn’t be at the expense of the younger players though, it’s to help them. This happy-go-lucky attitude because we’re 3pts inside the top-half and have somehow already earned the luxury of playing a false-9 system is naive. If we’re within touching distance of either a play-off spot, or the relegation zone come April and Gelhardt gets injured, what do you think the narrative will be if we fall short? No one will be grateful for the few extra minutes a young’un got being played out of position.

Vastly important last hour. Unlikely now but just have to hope.

It's a massive disappointment. It's not an under 8s sport day, you don't get credit for trying and planning. It's professional sports with millions on the line and a fanbase with raising expectations.

Delivering and executing is why these lot are in the jobs they are. We literally don't have a fit striker we own.

Our own manager who is very much a company fella and believes in the youth said last week we need help and need experience. In the last week we have lost 3 of our most senior pros on the dressing room /on the pitch (Wright, Stewart and Evans). All players whos experience and stature has helped knit the younger players together. They are got and have been replaced by players who have not played senior minutes.

We have 1 player, a 10, not a 9 who we will have to expect to play every minute in a gruelling championship Feb to May. It won't happen and it's realistically impossible. Could get a sharp injury with not been playing much, likely. Then what? Back to Jack Clarke up top ?

Last time this happened we plummeted down the league and form was abysmal. Maybe even bottom of the form table. We have had 2 years to sort this and we havnt. Literally no other permanent striker bought.

Speakman and recruitment have made some good calls but not getting some experience and a number 9 option is absolute failure. No other way to dress it up.

Just a massive opportunity missed. We are in with a possibility of play off positions and we have absolutely left ourselves criminally short.

Having plenty of available nails, wood and felt but failing to build a shed is a failure.

Being messed around by the wood suppliers, having the wrong nails delivered and being asked an absolute fortune for felt may mean you have to carry on using the shed you already have ...

... but it doesn't mean you're a failure.

As long as the old shed is waterproof and has a good lock, so you don't have your golf clubs stolen, you just have to get on with things and wait for the next delivery.

We have a striker, we need another 1 in at least. But the doom n gloom in here by some is over the top.

Devils advocate but Simms was replaced with Gelhardt. It's Stewart who hasn't been replaced.

But I hear you.
I see your point but Simms is a number 9, Gelhardt isn’t. Effectively we had 2 number 9’s, now we have none.

I think we’ve done great with our forward thinking and bravery going for young players but the forward situation has a lot to be desired.

We have 1 player who isn't ours. A young lad who is a 10 and not a 9. We have half a season to play for.

I think it's rather calm and honest on here.

People are right to be upset and feel let down. I think the club have been massively unlucky. But its big business. You need to be able to put in place mitigations so that if your plans don't come off there's a back up. And it seems we've failed to do that.

My one major worry is that normally I'd now say "I hope they learn from their mistakes", but this is actually worse than it was last time.
