Sadly Mowbray's plea for more help and experience has seen us sell our most experienced player and get in a kid who's never played a senior game.

It appears that our only target is Simms and that's dependent on Everton being competent in the next few hours. I suspect it's all agreed, pending on them getting a striker in first, which is looking unlikely.

It's a weird situation, as I fully believe we need another striker in, but if the only option is an overpriced punt a lá Will Grigg then is it better that the club keep their powder dry?

We look safe this season and promotion without Stewart is a still a lottery at best, so maybe it's not worth making a long term commitment that we only want for the short term. Finishing 10th this season and seeing Lihadji and Ekwah play a lot more than they were expected to this year won't be the end of the world.

I wouldn’t have let Wright go personally. With him gone, Stewart and Evans out for the season, Pritchard crocked, we’re down to pretty much only Batth and O’Nien as experienced pros.

Even if only in the dressing room, I think we’re short of experience.
im not sure we are the type of club to be keeping players on based on sentiment

We haven't sold him, your post makes it sound like TM has been ignored for profit. I bet TM has agreed to the move as he wasn't playing anyway and unlikely to and he has probably asked to go to get some minutes.

Probably came down to him being a good pro for us and being well liked and the club have allowed him to go as its what he wanted.

Sadly, having 'experienced' players, in the past, was a disaster ...

... the young lads are producing some of the best football of the last half century.

We go into the second half of the season with only one centre forward, you could not make that up.
It was foolhardy enough going intio the first half with only 2 centre forwards, but quite frankly, at any level of football, only having one is just plain daft

Being fair to players like Bailey Wright is as important as how we treat the young lads ...

... Sunderland is a club people want to be around.

Yeah. Imagine the club not finding an immediate replacement for Stewart at 48 hrs notice. Clowns

I'm sure in the summer window, the sunderland based journalists were briefed by the club that business was concluded and they then tweeted out.

We haven't had that yet.

Clutching at straws I know...
