Loan someone? Who ? Who is available? Name one player who you know is available, who is a decent forward ?

Club can target who they like, if the club who owns them doesn't want to do the deal, then it's Speakmans fault ?

Is it my job to scout players for Sunderland? Give me half an hour and I’ll find a few if you’re that bothered though, as I’ve done previously in this thread.

Before making a f*cking arse of yourself why don’t you look at the business happening around us and you’ll see there’s clearly plenty of players available for loan. Why WOULDNT clubs want to reduce their wage bill for 6 months?

Obafemi to Burnley.
Araujo to Watford.
Archer to Boro.
Marquinhos to Norwich.
Lowe to QPR.

Ian Dennis just said on 5 live that Everton are unlikely to be able to bring anybody in today. Simms looking very unlikely I'd say. I'm obviously losing my mortgage :D

I wouldnt take a lesser option, we should be taking the right option. We all wanted 2 strikers along with stewart at the start of the window but it wont be through a lack of trying by our recruitment team

Our recruitment has been class and the reason they have been is because they sign the right players not just any player.

It doesnt need to be a big striker, simms was big but he didnt play like a big striker - his hold up play was really poor and he doesnt use his physicality. Gelhardt will offer us the movement we need in a striker and we ideally will bring in another

Signing lesser options got us in trouble yrs ago

That is the sum of it. We are just up, cannot yet, by the manager's own public statement recently, compete with the top end of Championship for wages, do not have a " must get up" demand hanging around us and we will not be going down.

We could do with another decent forward, that's obvious, but they are always the hardest to find and the easiest to get wrong, lumbering the club with someone not good enough. If we don't get one the sky won't fall in

Yes i would, id rather use false 9s than sign someone like wickham - he is big and is free
We won one in seven with no strikers. You are one injury away from the same thing happening. Why would you not want to just have a bit cover incase the worst happens? I find that bizarre. We aren’t in a position where we need to throw stupid wages about. We can still do it within our price range.

Truly appalling . Unwatchable gibberish. When something compares poorly to Jim White, you are near the bottom. That said, in those days , even if nowt was happening, as was usual, there was always Natalie Sawyer to look at!

That’s what we need an old Skool sexyiest presenter debate on the side

I'd have taken Watmore back like. I bet he's relatively cheap and it would have been such a nice story.

not saying we should sign players based on being a nice story of course. but he'd do a job off the bench
Always liked Watmore but we have more than enough wingers already and he's nowhere near the level of our starters. Would be competing for a place on the bench

With our luck if we don't get in at least another striker then it is nailed on that Gelhardt gets injured at Millwall

My view:
  • We absolutely need a second striker
  • Ideally we need a third, but absolutely not essential
  • Ideally we will sign somebody who fits "the model"
  • However "the model" and "the project" can be enhanced counter-intuitively by signing somebody who doesn't fit it.
  • Signing a player we wouldn't normally target, who is able to fill a gap that helps us improve results in the short term, is helping those that are part of the "project", even if he isn't
  • Importantly, that person MUST NOT be expensive. They have to be a cheap option.
  • Throwing money at this problem should only be if its a long term prospect

I never once said i didnt want cover what i said is i dont want us to just sign anyone.

You just want a person in the door but what if that player is awful and eats up our wage bill. Or they have a shocking attitude and that rubs off on our younger players and disrupts everything

It has to be the right signing for the short or long term not just signing anyone

Short term deal, loans etc. my point is I just don’t think we should be too fussy. Avoid having just the 1 striker at all costs.

Starting to get a bit jittery now, mind. Disaster if we don’t bring another striker at the very least. The leniency in me says that anything else would just be a ‘bonus’, but could really do with some experience in midfield with Evans out.

Its those last 3 words that are the problem. I know its just language, but its what's being picked at.

It's definitely not "at all costs". But the line we should be drawing about where that maximum cost lies might be shifting.

Definitely need a striker. Listening to TM at the weekend I think he would quite like an Experienced CM for the rest of the season.
Cutting it fine but I think we will see a couple in before close of play.

Out of interest how many loans can we get in

The whole point in the model is that you’re always succession planning / disaster planning and continually looking for improvements and alternatives

This idea that it’s the new system working well that we end up with nobody rather than panic buy implies those are the only two options. If they are, then it’s a fail of the supposed model.
how many players should be in the succession list for each position? Lets say its 2/3, lets say for whatever reason we cant get them over the line....what do you suggest?...breaking the pay structure? signing anybody just to keep some randoms on the net happy? In other words throwing the very plan that has us where we are out of the window
