They have had months to set up targets and prepare the ground. If goalscorers don't score, they are moved on. Strikers are the hardest players to land, the test for recruiters are strikers...
Targets yes. We can "target" any player in the world, but getting them to sign is a whole different ball game. I find it appalling that people are slagging the club off after 2 years of outstanding recruitment.

Maybe we should go back to the Madrox days and get Grigg, Lafferty and Graham on free transfers just so we have some scarf pics to make us all happy

Is it? How? Nothing is ever on the buyer’s hands in the January window. Prices are inflated. I’d rather we weren’t doing what the Mags are (on a smaller scale) and pay overly inflated fees.

Who do you envisage we can sign so easily by overpaying? Would they want to come here! Would they “fit”? And I’m not talking about the model there. I’m talking about would they be the right type of person (not player) to come in with those youngsters. As correctly mentioned by @Smug in Boots , what if we get another Rodwell moment? I’d rather not sign a striker

What if my aunty has bollocks? Not every January transfer is a Rodwell! If that’s the case we best never sign someone mid season again. We’re many moons away from that kind of business now, it would be madness to not even loan someone and go the rest of the season without a striker and one more injury from being seriously in the sh*t when we’ve lost both strikers in the transfer window but what do I know I’m not the hierarchy all I know is we’re ending January with an arguably weaker squad through injuries than we started it with whilst the teams around us have all seemed to strengthen.

What bugs me, is Speakman and Co can obviously find good players, otherwise we would not have the talented young lads we have.

But when Simms and Stewart were injured, we should have learnt a lesson. Simms got called back to Everton weeks ago, Stewart now is out for the rest of the season. We expected Broadhead to return, never happened, Simms?

We have the young lad from Leeds for the rest of the season. If two strikers do not arrive in the next few hours. It is very very poor from the club.

Give over.

No one expected Stewart to get injured, we would have had 2 strikers available. Club can plan, but if clubs don't want to sell or loan then what can we do ? Except pay over the odds, which you seem to think is a good idea. January window is a **** time to buy in general

Careful not brown nosing Speakman may get his fans after you... they are the bees knees, are they not.

What a ****e day this has been so far
Deadline day usually is. All fart and nee ****e.

It would be nice to get deals done early in the window, but in reality that doesn't happen.

We've been dealt 2 **** hands in the last week of the window and not sure many clubs would be able to source decent replacements for Evans and Stewart at such short notice

Sorry I should have mentioned without breaking the bank. I’m not saying it should be just anyone. We needed 2 before the window and still need 2 now so I think there should have been a plan in place to get the exact ones we wanted. However I’d still take a lesser option over signing no one at all. Until we lost strikers this season I soon realised they are so much more than just goals. And they need to be big because the 2 strikers we lost are big strikers.
I wouldnt take a lesser option, we should be taking the right option. We all wanted 2 strikers along with stewart at the start of the window but it wont be through a lack of trying by our recruitment team

Our recruitment has been class and the reason they have been is because they sign the right players not just any player.

It doesnt need to be a big striker, simms was big but he didnt play like a big striker - his hold up play was really poor and he doesnt use his physicality. Gelhardt will offer us the movement we need in a striker and we ideally will bring in another

Signing lesser options got us in trouble yrs ago

So if you can’t get the right option you’d go on for the rest of the season with just 1?

I remember the transfer window in Jan 2018 when we basically signed anyone we could on a free or a loan, regardless of whether they were what we needed - Marc Wilson, LuaLua, Lee Camp, Ashley Fletcher, Jake Salty Cake. Absolutely minging

I'd rather we signed no-one, than just signing anyone

I'd have taken Watmore back like. I bet he's relatively cheap and it would have been such a nice story.

not saying we should sign players based on being a nice story of course. but he'd do a job off the bench

Loan someone? Who ? Who is available? Name one player who you know is available, who is a decent forward ?

Club can target who they like, if the club who owns them doesn't want to do the deal, then it's Speakmans fault ?

Yes if needs be. Why sign someone who will not improve us long term. The club is building nice and steady.
Why does absolutely everything need to be long term? You can flex a little to see us until the end of the season. Providing it doesn’t break the bank we can sign players for the here and now still just to see us through.
