This site reckons these are our wages, probably bollocks and I have no idea what they base it off. Amad top earner on 28k which makes sense considering he was signed for over 30 mil, Clarke next on 16k. You'd think Stewart would be somewhere in between the two.

Looking at some of the other teams like Boro we're pretty stingy in comparison.

The thing with the wage limit is we haven't made a bean on transfers for god knows how long, been in League 1 for 5 years, had big wages to pay players who were hanging around following relegation, then the pandemic hit our income and our running costs are high.
If the max is 20k for this season then it's probably about right imo and will increase again next year.

Sensible post. Add to that, we can't go down the basket case route the vast majority of championship clubs are of having wages bouncing at 100% plus of turnover.

As we improve turnover, I'm positive wages will increase

Not wanting to break the wage structure is one thing however selling Stewart for £10m would be an absolute joke, nearing the end of his contract or not. The damage it would do to the squad and our league standing is way more than that.

If we can’t get him to sign a new deal then we should be keeping him until the end of the season at least.
Depends who we replace him with

Also what a lot of people are forgetting when they are mentioning the wage structure is we are probably competing with a premium league team. I'm sure as a club we have offered a really competitive contract for the championship.
Unless it's one of the relegated teams that have parachute payments then we are probably offering as much as anyone else in this league can.
If a premium team makes an offer and it is about money we really can't compete, that is not the clubs fault that is just fact.
All the club can do is persuade Stewart that he's settled here offer good money for this league and convince him we are capable of premium league football within 18 months

I was told a while back that we were offering 20k a week but that Everton were prepared to offer 30 not sure if that was true but imo I think 20k is a good offer for where we are at the moment but would possibly offer to put that up with incentives E.G 2k a goal or a good win bonus or even offer him to double wages as and when we get back to Premier
