On the selling club thing. Most clubs are. The only reason we haven't been is because we've been ****

If he wants wages way outside of our pay grade then we shouldn't give him that much, nowt to do with lack of ambition it's common business sense. We have been down that route before way over spending and look where we ended upHe ain't going to Boro I told RTG 3 month ago the 2 clubs who would buy him.
Rangers are 1st in queue If they sell Morelles, and Everton 2nd with Simms as px at £2 million.
Both told £10mill is asking price.
It's all down to our ambition or lack of it.
He wants wages way outside our pay grade.
So if we do have ambition we have to pay for it.
Or Speakman gets his way and we become a selling club.

Never said they should all be on the same wage, but it still has to be within the budget of the club. I'm sure whatever the club offer home will probably make him the highest earner at the clubI would venture to suggest the wages of say a young right back would be a lot less than for a proven goal scorer...
I really dont see a championship club bidding for him. Not sure any would have the budget left in Jan, given FFP. Half of them are on the naughty step as it is.
I have been thinking about his interview the other day. I also look at what he did on the pitch. Looks a lad who fancies staying to me.
Me too. He’s superb and can do the lot. Potential to be a Sunderland legend if he stays put.I think £10m prices the Championship out of it personally. I really really really REALLY hope we keep him.
Not quite correct, matehttps://www.si.com/soccer/sunderland/news/sunderland-ross-stewart-contract-drop-big-clue
This is so obvious, but just hadnt realised. Rossco will be signing a new deal of some sort in the next 10 days to enable the club to trigger the extra 12 month extension, which is entirely at our discretion (not the player).
No way the club isn't doing this, as we need to protect Stewart as an asset, and also stopping him signing for a non-English club on 1st Jan. (eg, Rangers)
So there has to be an agreement announced between now and 31st Dec.
But when the aim to to get to the prem or at least in the playoffs, then your assets should be kept safeWith the exception of a very small handful every club is a selling club.
Brentford are the best example of how selling assets can work though - they sold quality players but signed players with the funds to improve the squad and the team. I agree we shouldnt just sell players for the sake of it but if a good offer comes in for any player we should seriously consider it. The key is using any funds we do receive to improve the squadBut when the aim to to get to the prem or at least in the playoffs, then your assets should be kept safe

If we sold Stewart for 10m, it would be over 3200% profit. Not sure if we turn that down. Imagine if we signed his replacement for 7m, and further down the line got even a 500% profit off them.
There is no way they sell him for 10 and buy someone for 7. Max will be 2-3 million imo. And that's probably hopeful!
I think if there was a 22 Yr old striker of the right calibre available for 7 million I believe we would pay it, like Jack Clarkes deal is reportedly going to cost us 5 million but we would expect to sell him in a few years for a lot more, they age and potential have to be right to invest, we will not invest 7 million on a 29 Yr old striker who will get us to the Premier league who will still only be worth 7 million. There's a clause in Michut's loan to sign him for 5m euros, and he plays in a position we have plenty of players, but we wouldn't spend roughly 2m more to replace our main striker?

We paid 300 thousand for Stewart who got us to the championship and is now worth 10 million, that is the plan and if recruitment get it right it could be fantastic for us as a club.
If we sign Michut for 5 million it will be because we believe in 4 years we can sell him for 20.
The whole set up of the club has changed and its not a case of signing players to get us to the Premier league and then try and stay there, it's all about the right recruitment of young players which in fairness we have done really well so far
