I don't disagree with the premise, but our success rate in actually bringing in the player who could only be signed in summer has been pretty bad the past few years.
Just have to hope they learned their lesson

That is assuming that this isn't part of the lesson they've learned. It's hard to shake the feeling that under the previous owner we much preferred telegraphing the willingness to buy than the act of actually spending money, and I don't get the sense that our new owner is any more interested in splashing cash.

Yep business early in the summer please............don't drag it out saints, and end up losing out.
The premise behind your post is very true, that is we do need to bring in some much added quality. We can only ‘lose out’ if:
1. There is such a player on the market.
2. We have the financial ability to buy.
3. We have a clear view that such a player is better than the existing squad and that they can integrate into the squad quickly and effectively.

Simply buying players to satisfy the urge to do something has proved, as others have said, a poor strategy. Everyone loses, the club, the player, and us the fans, if no improvement is forthcoming after spending millions of pounds. Just now there are three such players on our books that we haven’t seen for ages. If they had turned out ok, we would be in a much better place, but they didn’t and are now tying up vast sums of cash. So less money to spend again.

I thought that we were told nobody would be coming in, or perhaps maybe one, of the right one was available. Is this not what Ralph said end of December/beginning of Jan?

That deal was voted down, an amendment was made to that proposal and Ralph has gone back to Europe to see if he can get a better deal.

Unlikely to do it in 3 hours though. Could take a while.
