Rumours that City have pulled out of the Mahrez deal, Mahrez left with egg on his face for the second time this season <laugh>
Tbf if they were offering serious cash + Patrick Roberts as well that may not have been the worst thing. Wonder how the atmosphere will be now.....can’t imagine it’d affect results as it’s the rest of the squad backing the club if anything

Rumours that City have pulled out of the Mahrez deal, Mahrez left with egg on his face for the second time this season <laugh>

If he's actually done what 'sources' have claimed, then he's a dick ... he'll get pelters the next time he plays which is quite sad given what he has actually done for us ... should have just gone and seen Claud Puel on the quiet and expressed his preference for a move and then seen how the land lies ... if he's pissed the owners off they'll be content for him to train and play with the development squad until they have a change of heart ... <laugh>

Manchester City have walked away from a proposed deal for Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez after refusing to sanction a transfer package that would have cost £95m.
City do not view themselves as having made an offer after Leicester City came to them with a proposal that would have also included a player.

Conversations took place to ascertain Leicester's value of Mahraz - a number of which took place - and City's interest pre-dates emergence of their interest in the Algerian interest in 26-year-old Mahrez.

City had previously made it clear that they were not willing to spend, however the package was made up, more than £60m.
The difference in valuation was so big that there was no chance of agreement being reached, leaving City to walk away from the deal.

City were not interested in Mahrez simply because Leroy Sane was ruled out for seven weeks with the injury sustained in Sunday's FA Cup win at Cardiff City.
The club had a long-standing desire to bring in an attacking player next summer. They were obviously interested in Alexis Sanchez before he went to Manchester United but felt that was too expensive and have now reached the same conclusion with Mahrez.

You can't really blame him, City are favourites to win everything and if these players don't have the opportunity to join United like Sanchez then City represents the next best thing at this moment in time.

He's always been a little weasel of a man, this shouldn't come as a surprise.

yeah its a shame for mahrez, could have been joining the big boys and each time he has been priced out. I can see him going on strike again

He chose to sign a new long contract, he chose not to insist on any clause, he chose to have last season off and put off any suitors. Big nasty Leicester stopping him my arse. We would probably have let him go had it not been deadline day but why should we be bullied into selling him for less than **** players go for just because they’re Man City and we are leicester? Anyway, he has a decision now, he puts his disappointment behind him, plays his heart out and gets his move (not necessarily to Man City) in the summer or he sulks and puts everyone off again just when clubs have come round to the idea of signing him again. By the time his contract runs down he won’t be right in his prime any more

I don't in fairness ... long gone are the days of the one club player ... Suarez and Coutinho at Liverpool ... Ronaldo with United .... arguably only Barca and Real can rest on their laurels ... but then look what Neymar Jnr just did ... what's pleasing for us fans is that our current owners won't take any crap from other clubs or players <laugh>

Having watched him consistently I am content that he didn't ever go on strike ... they were all crap for quite some time and he had more excuse than most ... being double and sometimes triple teamed by the opposition ...

Dunno about that, he'll be 28 so still in his prime.

Yup his fault for signing the contract, bad move on his part.

Shame for him in the sense that you guys have set a ridiculously high price on him (thought summer was reasonable but too high for foreign clubs). I reckon he'll sulk for a while, maybe still attack a lot but screw the defending.

Jokes aside they do seem good owners.

Edit: Apart from sacking Ranieri.

... £75 million for a Netherlands defender ... £145 million for an average Brazilian <doh>.... not us that started setting ridiculously high prices ... Mahrez ripped up the Prem as we won the title and has been doing so again lately ... market dictates mate <ok>

This transfer window aside we have reinvested virtually all the money back into wages and players. When we sold everyone in 2014 we received about £100m, we spent about £60-70m on players and increased wages. Due to the size of the club if we sell a player for a large fee we won't be able to replace them with someone for a similar price as they won't be interested in coming. So we buy cheaper replacements, hoping to identify potential (like we did with Mane and Van Dijk). If we spent all the money we received on players our squad would be massive as it would be sell a player for £40 mil, replace with 3 £15m players.

Where we have ****ed up is giving long and bigger contracts to the other players in the squad who were in the teams that did well in the last few years, but who aren't wanted by the top teams (Forster, Davis and Long spring to mind). They are all on £50k+ a week now which nobody else would give them so are happy to stay, which is holding us back. I have no problem with them doing that as loyalty is a 2 way street, but it was ******ed by the club to offer them deals like that in the first place. The other thing tied to that is the wage difference between our top earner and smallest earner in the first team must be very small compared to other clubs. Our top earner is reportedly on £80k and I'd be surprised if any of the lowest earners were on much less than £40k so we have a large wage budget, but being taken up by no superstars and mainly just average PL players.

It definitely doesn't seem like you've spent the money you've recieved. But il take your word for it.

The problem with putting these players on big contracts, is not just the fact you have to pay them a lot, it's that if they are a flop, then you lose any resale value on them, as no one is going to buy them and take on the wages they are on. We had the same problem with the likes of Rooney and Schweinstieger, so we ended up practically giving them away for free. Rooney was definitely worth atleast 20 million in today's market, but because he was on 250k a week, we where just happy to get him off the wage bill.
