Arsenal have been linked with a possible move for Liverpool defender Glen Johnson. The Reds' right-back turns 30 this year and has less than 2 years remaining on his contract but Liverpool won't be offering him a new, highly lucrative deal.
With a weekly wage in excess of £110,000-a-week, the defender is one of the highest paid full-backs in the world. While boss Brendan Rodgers would like to see the player retained, any extension would have to show a significant reduction in his salary.
KOPTALK sources claim that the Johnson camp have indicated that he is in no rush to sign a new deal with the club because he knows he can secure a deal elsewhere on similar terms, without having to take a pay cut. Arsenal have been monitoring the situation for a while and according to chatter doing the rounds today, they've started to sound out the player's agent.Real Madrid have also been linked.
