A couple of years ago we were rumored to have been interested in Charlie Austin.
I think he is only about 23/4 and this season has scored 20 + could be worth a punt for 2/3m

I think he'd be a good signing, Roscafre, but I doubt we'd get him for anything like that price. And I don't think a striker should be our priority if it stops us signing a midfielder and a centre back. Possibly a left back too.

I'd stump up the dosh and pay Wigan for James McCarthy - he could do a job for us I'm sure...thoughts?

Therein lies the problem. We won't be splashing out for anyone this January, Jol has said so himself, there is little value to be made in the January market.

According to the Mail (yeah, I know) we have £10 million to spend. Could get a decent midfielder for that at least.

How much Jol is given to spend of that £10m (which is arguably £16m - £18m if you include BZ, Gecov and Hoesen money) is the question and it certainly doesn't sound as though MAF will be adding to it. Jol's statements to the press don't suggest a heavy outlay in January - this is a typical report (from the Guardian) -

Martin Jol insisted Fulham do not need to spend their way out of trouble in January after another bad result sucked his side closer to the relegation zone. This defeat by Swansea extended the Cottagers' miserable run to one win in 12 and left them four points above the bottom three.

Fulham look in need of reinforcements but, though Jol will try to dip into the transfer market when the window reopens on Tuesday, he is confident the return of injured players will be the real catalyst for a revival. Bryan Ruiz, in his first start for six weeks, showed with a man-of-the-match performance on Saturday how much Fulham had missed him.

And Jol hopes the imminent recovery of Mahamadou Diarra, Mladen Petric and Damien Duff will have the same effect. "If players come back from injury, I think that will freshen up the squad as well," said Jol, who admitted the trio were unlikely to return for Tuesday's trip to West Bromwich Albion. "If we can do something in the market, we will try to do that. But it's not easy. You know as well as I do that clubs will wait and wait until you have to pay the maximum price and we will not do that."

As others have said it misses the point that Diarra will be missing for a fair part of the New Year. Also it's a fair point that Jol is probaly playing it low key and unlike Redknapp doesn't wish to undermine his current players in public. The term "dip" has an ominous ring to it though. Whatever business is done, let's hope this time it's early in the window.

Anyway, roll on the big opening tomorrow when, as Diddy David Hamilton would say, "It's Show Time!!"

Derek Boateng has Fulham medical ahead of move

We seem to be linked with this guy every transfer window for some reason. Jol is obviously looking for not only a CM to replace Dembele/Murphy, but one to replace Diarra who will miss games while at the ACON, but Boateng will miss the same amount of games as he is away with Ghana. Strange signing.

Interesting that the article states Boateng can also play at CB. Could he be Hangeland's replacement? He does look an absolute beast though!

We almost signed him in the summer (if I remember correctly we were gazumped by Dnipro) so Jol obviously likes him.

Reckon he would be a good signing but the fact that he's also (probably) off to the Acon does indeed make it a bit strange - unless, unlike the rest of us, Jol doesn't see a defensive midfielder the immediate priority ! No, I'm sure he does and he's hoping that Boateng will get game time, something he's not had a lot of at Dnipro recently, in the Africa Cup and he's hopefully, hoping that the current group will see us through the next 3/4 league games before he returns.

24/12/12 Will Hughes (Derby County) We are still being linked to the 17 year old 'blonde bombshell'. The bad news is that Derby value him at £10m. The good news is that he doesn't have an agent.

Derby County have officially announced their rejection of a £2.5m by us.

He'd be ideal, from what I gather. Not sure how much we ought to pay for him though, he's been doing well but he's still very young and would only realistically be one for the future, surely?

28/12/12 Chris David (Twente) MF Fulham are back in for Chris David who they almost got in the summer. (Mail)

Acoording to Dutch papers we have signed Chris David on a 4 year deal. If you recall his signing didn't go through in the summer because there hadn't been sufficient time to get a second medical opinion before the deadline. No fee is mentioned.

Just think, if Ray Lew had still been with us we might have signed Demba Ba - he has signed him before :

Watford's then manager Ray Lewington offered him (Demba Ba) a one-year deal. But fate was to step in his way as Lewington was sacked soon after and his replacement, Aidy Boothroyd, was not convinced by Ba's talent and chose to let him go.

There again I suspect Ba's money men might have had something to say about that - reports say he's going to get get £70k per week at Chelsea.

Is that all? I read somewhere it was closer to £100K p/w. I would have thought he's on something similar to 70 at Newcastle already.

Didn't Ba turn down the £70k a week deal that Newcastle offered him? I imagine he's on about half that at the moment. But to be honest, I suspect the real reason he wants to move is the signing on fee. His knee could fall apart at any minute, so money now is much more important to him than a usual player his age.

Sky Sports have announced that FULHAM is the mystery team on the verge of signing Forren from Norway.

Would be a terrific signing if true! Might inspire Hangeland to sign an extension too!

Bent also linked with an £8m move with Hangeland going in the other direction. Can't see that one myself.

Boateng and Forren would be a very good start to the window for us.

Well spotted Bandito. A link to the article for those interested; http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ing-race-to-sign-Molde-defender-Vegard-Forren

I'd love for us to sign him, and the quotes from Molde boss Solksjaer support it (although no source for thinking it's us). Maybe a partnership of him and Dan Burn in the future, wouldn't that be nice...

And Bent for Hangeland? Erm, world of no.
