He probably will be a step up long term, but it isn't a "major" step up. I spent my career as a keeper, I spent my coaching career coaching them and a hell of a lot of time breaking down their games etc... I do like Ingram, yes. But that doesn't stop me giving criticism when it's needed. But I won't ever understand why certain people on here are quick to put him down at every opportunity. It's almost comes across like some want him to fail. It happened when Baxter came in from Chelsea, it happened when Darlow was spoken about and now again when he's had on MOTM ( well deserved) performance.

But hey, I suppose it wouldn't be city fans if there's wasn't someone getting played down for absolutely no reason whatsoever

*Edit* how many motm wins/top 3s has Ingram got this season on our motm threads....

Ingram has been very good for us and to be honest i didnt see a way Darlow would get a game. I get a more confident feeling playing out from the back with Darlow however. He played very well tonight as you rightly say so has Ingram lots of time this year. Not sure they are any major step ups from either of them in the championship. Maybe better keepers but not stand out.

I do find it strange that Ingram didnt get many games for QPR before coming to us.....

Surely a keeper that can use his feet is a major set up?

Ingram can use his feet and has been getting better with his feet game by game. If you want to get really critical today, the fact darlow spilled the first shot ( I think it was the first ) was piss poor as it was a run of the mill easy save that he should be keeping hold of 100x out of a 100.

Noticed he did that against Bristol City too, hasn't cost us, but he needs to hold those shots better.

His long passing is still poor and while I agree he's improving with the short stuff he still doesn't look comfortable

He does, hopefully that will improve as he gets back in the swing of playing regularly

Darlow had one on of those games he just seemed to be at the right place. Which when your on form as keeper, happens.

Ingham has been very good and they’re not much between them. Darlow seems to have very quick footwork across his goal. Handling needs to be slightly better but he’s got the gloves till the season ends var a disaster.

I think once you reach a level there’s not a huge amount between keepers. Obviously they all have their unique strengths and weaknesses but as a whole. And the difference is often those that can be the most consistent keeping ant the top of their game and remain calm and rational the most often that rise to the top. Must be the most difficult position to play spending at least 95% of the game doing **** all but having to remain 100% alert.

Yeah, just look at Ederson at Man City, think they've conceded from the first shot on target conceded in a bunch of games in a row now.

Re: Darlow....Good shot stopping and excellent reading of game etc....If being picky only down points..(1) Tended to come out of his goal a little too far on a couple of occasions, and (2) his goal kicking isn't great. Hardly reached the half way line from a couple of kicks....Other than that really good. Catching crosses and bossing the area, as good as anything we've had in the past. Up there with Boaz.

We've been lucky with keepers over the years. Boaz was brilliant but we didn't worry if Mat Duke was in. In fact Duke commanded the area better than Bo.
