As ST said earlier in the thread, our signings over an extended period (since Darnborough schmooooozed his way into a job) has been appalling..

Only season I can think it seemed to work was the L1 campaign which maybe suggests the bracket of players he knows best. Perhaps he can get a job at Posh..

Depending on how this January goes, I think Acun needs to be drawing up a few priorities ahead of the summer including new recruitment staff.

Actually Syd, I'm all for finding players further down the pyramid, the trick I suppose is scout seeing the ones others dont. Like the Andy Robertson Stan T story I suppose...

I still can't agree with that. Even if he was the leading scorer in the league I would think 25k for a kid is too much to be paying. The only way I don't think it matters is if we're top of the league and we know we're heading into PL money. The fact we turned down signing a player in a role we needed because of a wage dispute but then happily agreed to paying this is just a massive head scratcher.

It's the daft market we're in though.

I agree with you that it's mad, but it was DD and we'd been rejected by everyone else/the Halil situation went sour.

I was hoping Rosey & Justin Walker would have a big impact on this. JW will have an extremely good knowledge of the u23s game and I'd hope we could exploit it in a similar way to how Critchley did at Blackpool

Ndayishimiye probably would’ve cost over £4 million in transfer fees in addition to whatever salary he wanted. But, that’s the sort of money you need to pay for players of that calibre. He’s having a great season again in Turkey so far and he’s a young, talented defensive midfielder/centre-half. We happily payed £3 million for Sinik, £3 million for Tufan etc. plus all of their wages. Woods will be on £10-15k a week. Vale apparently on £25k-a-week.

We probably could’ve gotten Ndayishimiye if we really wanted and it’s a position I think we should’ve prioritised as soon as Smallwood was told he didn’t have a future here. Instead we panic-bought Woods and loaned two unproven youngsters from Chelsea on ridiculous wages.

The money and FFP headroom was available to splash on a top-class defensive midfielder at this level; we just didn’t utilise it properly.

From memory we'd agreed the transfer fee and it was just down to wages? Which isn't to say it was an unsubstantial fee, but agree with you, the way we panicked was pretty bad. It was Acun's first summer window, and I hope he's better for it. We need to be far more sensible with our business. Identify the needs and get them, don't just sign another random player because the budget is there. I don't even know why we felt the need to panic, at the time we were looking very strong in the league, it's not like we were in the position we are now.

That position is literally the difference between a top and mediocre team in the modern game too. Albeit we’ve got one in Seri but just completely neglected who we’d have around him

I still like the look of Bielek who LR had at Derby, now at Birmingham..

He would’ve been the top of my shopping list for a new CDM in the summer were it not for his injuries. He’s arguably the most talented CDM in the Championship but he’s had more serious injuries already than most players in a lifetime. Brum took the plunge by signing him on loan. On his day he’s class.

Aren't Başakşehir the richest team in Turkey? They've just made it into Europe and have aspirations to win the league. I doubt they would sell us one of their star players.

Someone on here indicated we agreed a fee in the summer but couldn’t agree personal terms. He’s probably way out of our budget now and they’ll likely want £8 million plus for him and a decent sell-on percentage if they sell to a club in one of the top 5 European leagues.

Me too. They’re supposedly wanting to do a swap deal for him
He's in the £2 million range I think looking at google... Doubt Brum have that money or anyone Derby would want as a swap for that sort of figure because of their financials.. he's the sort of player who just floats through a game and all of a sudden he's there again... 1.89 too just saying LOL>..

If we're paying all of Vale's 25k+ a week then that's more an indictment on the ownership than anything else I've seen from them so far. That's appalling mismanagement.

And people wonder why Honeyman's nose was put out of joint when we offered him 10k a week to stay..
Stop syd or some silly sneering **** will have a go about honeymans wages

Just watching Rosey's pre match press conference. It does seem like we're open to offers on Tufan and it seems like all 3 Chelsea boys will be going back

If he's available for 2m we should be making a push for him.

He seems so have slimmed right off, would be a shame but if we recoup the fee we paid I’d not be against it should it be put to good use. Our midfield is definitely our weakest part of the squad, Seri aside I don’t think any of the others get into other starting 11s
