I wonder if we are just putting ourselves in prime position to sign Darlow (loan or permanent) in the summer? Nothing wrong with Ingram if our ambition is to consolidate this season, but maybe Liam thinks we need an upgrade if we are going to be challenging for the play offs next season?

Surely it's just a case of replacing Baxter given he's now perma-crocked. We should have at least 2 competing for the same shirt.

He's got a long term contract with Newcastle, so he's going to be difficult to get permanently unless they pay him off

We didn't have to go for someone of Darlow's calibre though. If we were happy with Ingram as the no.1, you could bring in somebody cheap as the no.2

Our centre backs have more than proven they’re upto this level.
Really, is that why we always look like conceding from corners and free kicks? Especially at home.
Why we need tall full backs to shore up the defence from set plays? Greaves and Jones both need to bulk up to stop getting bullied, and I don't think McLoughlin has the pace for a top Championship team. Remember what Andy Carroll did to us in a quick cameo?

That Andy Carroll game was a year ago and it was Bernard who had the horror show.

Carroll won the header that lead to the own goal
The Andy Carroll Keegan described as the “best header of the ball he’s ever seen” and Bilic also claimed the best in the world at heading the ball. Not the best player to judge our centre halves against aerially…

I just thought the original point was daft. He terrorized Bernard a year ago, but it was said that he crippled us in his cameo this year, when he won one header which Longman cocked up with

He's made a career out of being outstanding in the air, he's played for England, and the PL and caused problems for defenders at all levels.

He won every header after he came on, they just played long balls to him and we couldn't clear it.
We concede far too often from corners and free kicks, against Huddersfield they got 2 free headers and a free cross virtually in our 6 yard box from a corner for their goal, or are we watching different games?

But that's what Carroll does. If you expect us to have defenders who'll regularly beat him in the air, then you won't have much change out of £50m.

In the 10 games under LR, we've conceded 9 goals and I think 2-4 have been from set pieces. If we concede less than a goal a game next season, the likelihood of being in the top 6 is extremely high
