Few crossed wires.

Baz in the HDM Q&A seems to think that we won't spend money this window and that the embargo is still in place.

He also thinks the Hugill one is a goer.

What I can't understand is how we can sign Regan permanently as Sheffield United always wanted a nominal fee for him.

Not exactly what he said, to be fair.

I don't think big money will be spent, no. I know players are being linked for significant amounts, but from what I've been told at this stage in January, there won't be a flurry of cash shelled out. I also think there's a really fine balance to be struck here.

City have a very tight squad, they have one which operates under a certain wage structure within the budget, a budget we know to be one of the smallest in the league. If Ilicali starts bringing in players on bigger salaries, that, like or not, is going to cause friction within the dressing room.

This has to be a carefully thought out process otherwise you risk upsetting what is a very stable place.

That doesn't say we won't spend money, just not big money. As to the embargo:

On the embargo, that appears to be a murky area and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it because I've heard various different things and not one concrete answer. As I understand it, at this stage, nothing has changed and it remains in place as of 11:19am on January 21, 2022.

Wahaay, it's 12:04 now, so we're good to go. :emoticon-0169-dance

Loan with an arranged fee and agreement to buy?

Been reported by both ends as a permanent.

What's big money thouggh? Sky and Mike White believe there's something in Pesic but £3m is big money. There's several high profile Turkish Sources which believe the deals are done for both strikers.

It would seem bizarre to spend good money buying a club to leave it under a transfer embargo

Thing is, Acun said he likes the squad we have now but that we need additions in certain areas. I also think he’s smart enough to realise we have the lowest wage bill in the league and so signing expensive players on 5 figure weekly salaries won’t be good for moral, unless he also plans to offer similar wages to our most crucial players. I think that the team should be built around the likes of Honeyman, Docherty, KLP, Greaves etc. We probably need a new defensive midfielder as a long term replacement for Smallwood but more mobile, definitely a new centre-half with Championship experience, a decent striker and some fullbacks. I don’t think we’ll go mad this window.

In recent years, we’ve signed players on loan just to fill out the squad but it’s not sustainable. Matt Smith hasn’t had any game time at all in the last few months.

The fact a few have said there's credibility in the Pesic link in particular makes me think there's something being lost in translation if Baz is being told we aren't doing anything crazy and the embargo is still in place.

How is Slater having a medical if it is?

I read something the last time we were signing him, about a way around the fee, the way Sheffield structured it or maybe I was asleep and dreamt the bloody thing.

I agree, wouldn't the EFL possibly make it a condition of agreeing to the takeover that this loan is paid back? I think if I was in their position I would do that.

This is what I don't get. We can't sign Slater permanently unless we pay a small fee. If we're under an embargo we can't and they won't release him as other clubs want him and will pay a fee.

Although Baz said we were signing Sims and Aydogan, yet looking at the work permit rules, there was zero chance of Aydogan getting a work permit. And the Sims stuff has gone silent

This is all confusing as ****! I thought the EFL loan had been repaid as part of the takeover??

I thought we were free to sign any player we choose?

Was that Japanese midfielder we were linked with for 5 million just nonsense or was there actually something in it? Not heard anything about him for a while now.
