Definitely, though there's some player agency in that, as well. It's considered really bad form to set a price and then up it if further bids come in, so I'd imagine that Broja's agents will be pushing for a firm price in advance of the summer (so that they can immediately turn around and tell every team in the world what it is).

I'm actually reasonably confident that, if Chelsea's ask is in the £20-25m range (and we're willing to pay it) that he'd join. He'd get a fair bit of interest, but with a more tenuous position in the squad and the need to prove himself again. The advantage of joining Saints is that he's already atop our team sheet, which wouldn't necessarily be the case at a West Ham or Everton.

Yep. If we can get the nod on 20-25 with a buy back of 50 (for argument's sake) for this window, we should jump on that (and I think we will).

If "Europe" is not the CL then is has nothing to offer players, it's fun for the fans, if it's novelty.

He might well stay here, if we and he keep improving. His parents are keen for him to do so.

WHU are too far up the table perhaps. Is there a precedent for wanting prospects on loan to play in the EUROPA? Barring fan's enthusiasm - if Europe is a novelty, for the clubs it's a bit of an inconvenience for clubs wanting the full-fat European competition, the standard isn't that high and from the loanee perspective you can't tell if the club will prioritises it. If West Ham get CL I can't see him being loaned to a now closer rival to Chelsea.

I meant if Chelsea refuse another loan (which they were quoted the other day as saying). So he would leave permanently or stay at Chelsea next season.

Hardly the ringing endorsement of him from Tuchel. Interesting considering they claim he is a big fan of him and “loves him”

Worth also noting that Chelsea have today been linked with Hugo Ekitike from Reims. A 19 year old linked the Newcastle for circa 30m. So they might even be planning on signing a younger striker than Broja. Stories like this have surely got to play on his mind
Think thats perfect from Tuchel think we might have a chance to sign him on loan again but its not worth thinking about every 20 seconds

Athletic have reported he will not be leaving on loan again.

What is the hit rate of The Athletic ? What did they say about Ings for example?

They have reported that McCarthy has signed a new contract but it has not been announced by the club - even though Tella’s has been announced since then. They might be right of course but it is odd

Athletic are probably the most reliable and accurate non-Saints source out there.

Didn't they also say Stephens had extended his contract? It might not have been them though, and he may even have extended? <laugh>

They are usually pretty accurate, to be fair.

But usually they do it with a sense of fun. This would not achieve that
My gut instinct is we'll sign him for 20 mill. Chelsea won't want him going somewhere like West Ham, and with a buy back clause should he bag 20-25 goals for us in a season they can buy him back. If he stays at Chelsea it may stall his development so although it may cost them net 30 mill to sell him then buy him back 2 or 3 seasons down the line they may end up with a much better player as a result of him playing every week.

Yes - i can’t picture someone like West Ham or Newcastle agreeing to a buy back clause. And even if they did they are quite likely to be able to pay him a sufficient amount that he wouldn’t necessarily want to go back

A rival who might want him is Brighton but they have already refused a buy back clause with Chelsea (for Tino). So perhaps we are just easier to negotiate with

They said that he will join permanently in the summer or will be given a chance at Chelsea. I know that doesn’t really say anything but it’s in David Ornstein’s bllog and he’s their rumour and gossip bod. He’s certainly well sourced.

Who is this source ? Could this just be a rehash of a link from earlier in the season?
I would be shocked if we weren’t in for him. He’s been great there and is out of contract. He’s a player in a position we need and he’s going to be looking at Premier League clubs who can give him minutes. I still wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if he re-signed for Fulham. If they get promoted then he has an opportunity to be at a club he knows and who already trusts him. If they went down in a years time he’ll only be 20/1 and would have great options for moves.
