We won’t sign anyone today. Don’t think we really need to as we’re in pretty good shape at the moment, virtually a fully fit squad after the winter break. Wont have to ground in any new signings. Roll on Saturday.
Makes sense for Spurs and Ali, Spurs get a transfer fee and him off the books for good and Ali will get a fresh start and nice long contract. A loan deal was always a no brainer but it seems a huge risk to sign him on a permanent deal (their only option) from Everton as he will be on big wages and hasn't been good in years.
Apparently only 10m and only after he has played 20 games. Doesn’t sound like Levy at all! Must really want rid of his wages
Agreed but for Spurs it is £100,000 a week off the wage bill for someone that hardly plays which they can put towards payingfor their stadium. Not sure when his contract expires.
Dear Lord I Dear Lord I hope so,, not having an adequate no one keeper is our biggest weakness, this lad would be a major step forward
How many of the deals conducted today are likely as a result of long term planning and ended up today just because of logistics ? Compared to panic ? For example Newcastle has all January and all the money in the world. Where on their list of left backs was Matt Targett do we think? Where on the list of CBs was Burn. 3rd at best but likely lower Dele to Everton on a permanent I expect also involves a pay rise for him and is just Frank taking after good ol’ Harry Sometimes you get cases of a player being made available last minute and therefore deadline day is a thing. Or delays because selling clubs want replacements or to fulfil certain fixtures (mainly thinking summer and UCL qualifiers) So whilst it would have been nice to have signed someone that applies more to “in this window” rather than on deadline day itself
We have “adequate” keepers. We need a very good one. Whether Johnstone is a significant upgrade on what we have is far from certain. And all the rumours I saw suggested WBA wanted 10m even though his contract is up in the summer. We won’t be doing that From an investment perspective signing him on a free in the summer will be “worth it” as we will upgrading (even if only by a minor amount) but there will be no eight figure (or close to it) outlay. But now? I just don’t see it. You never know though. Depends on what they want and also probably if they would take one of ours on loan the other way
Its <£10m, the rest is all based various bonuses so would only be paid if he was a success. Still don't think it is a great deal for Everton as his wages will be over £5m per season and he hasnt looked a good player in over 2 years.
It won't end up under 10mill though. It's mainly based on appearances. Even if it doesn't reach 40mill I would still expect the fee to go above 30.
