So he negotiates and then they extend and therefore invalidating it? Or if he comes to an agreement they can’t extend ? Bizarre
I think it sounds very much like a loan extension. Good though, either way (of course would prefer if we managed to buy him).
I think Forster is our best number one, but we really need an upgrade in goal. If the growing speculation about Henderson is true, Saints must get this over the line. He's on Man U bench today, but he isn't the only goalkeeper on it.
Even putting wages to one side though, I just don't see us signing a keeper this month. That would leave us with four on our books for the next five months. Would we have retained Willy if we were looking to add a keeper this month? It will likely be a completely different scenario in the summer, once Willy and Fraser are gone (assuming they do). But competition is also likely to be greater in the summer, unfortunately. Fabianski isn't getting any younger. Newcastle, if they stay up, will be even more attractive than they are now. Lloris might not sign a new contract at Spurs. Leicester might start to plan for a post-Schmeichel era. But hey, we can still hope and wish. It would be great to sign him.
I don’t think we have a number one keeper, both second rate with different strengths and weaknesses. A new quality keep is absolutely essential, we can progress until we have some quality in goal
Is Henderson even that good anyway? Remember him being good for Sheff U a couple of seasons ago but thought he’s looked poor whenever he’s had a chance at Man U. Obviously him and Johnstone would be first names that spring to fans minds as they both play domestically, but I think we will get someone from abroad who will hopefully represent better value than what we would have to pay for Henderson or Johnstone (although I’ve been told that he is already nailed on to be going to West Ham)
I would put money on us not signing a goalkeeper this month. Maybe in the summer. We’re going to be safe and not bothering Europe this season. What’s the rush?
Like Wolves did. I assumed they would struggle losing Patricio. But their new goalkeeper has been one of the signings of the season. Aided by the dodgy Mendes connection of course. But unlike players like Patricio and Neves he seems like someone who would have been within their reach regardless
Oh you’re all going to be reeeeally upset when we announce that we’ve signed a highly-touted 18-year-old goalkeeper who’s only minutes are for Gillingham reserves and then Ralph says we’re all good in that position.
Im not talking about this month, but it is obviously a position we are going to be looking at in the summer with the departure of Forster. I agree it is pointless to sign anyone this window unless someone we want becomes available for a cheap price, which seems unlikely.
I wasn’t specifically replying to you, there are some who are hopeful of getting one this window I think.
I hope this is both true and the fee is lower than 25m. Ideally lower than 20m. For common sense reason but also because the reaction of the Chelsea glory hunters on Twitter will be both glorious and hilarious. They think he is currently worth more than they paid for Diego Costa and Arsenal paid for Aubameyang (examples) The fact that this is all so public suggests both that something is happening and the price won’t be unreasonable There is a Chelsea fan on Saintsweb who was saying that he thought Ralph’s comments were “poaching” and would damage our chance of future deals with Chelsea . They seem to be absolutely nothing of the sort Not least because we really have no leverage for poaching. This isn’t like VVD to Liverpool or Fabregas to Barcelona or Cristiano Ronaldo to Real
