Brighton have been very good at transfers in recent years, hopefully we can do the same. Apart from their strikers
You get way more room/time to operate at full back than any other area on the pitch. Wingers are generally lazy/**** defensively so you can carry the ball and beat them relatively easily. Might be worth seeing what Livramento can do further forward but I’d imagine lots of people would be complaining about how quiet he is when most full backs have him in their pockets when he can’t get a head of steam charging up from deeper
You have to imagine that this is the type of signing that our takeover will allow us to pull off from this summer onwards. Or at least - I hope it is
The other name I couldn’t remember was Carvalho from Fulham I’d be interested in how we free up squad space if we want both him and McAtee. Both attacking midfield players. I assume Djenepo goes but one other potentially does as well. Perhaps if we can raise fund for Ely since I can’t imagine us offering either of them a contract extension. Especially not Ely on his current terms As an aside - a HampshireLive article I was just reading suggested that we haven’t paid any of the Tino fee yet. That is interesting. Hadn’t heard that before
Trippier is out of contract in the summer and wants to return to the UK so £12m for a player they got for free and could have left for nothing in the summer is pretty good business for Atletico Madrid more than Newcastle IMHO.
Newcastle also in for Ramsey apparently. He has managed the full 90 mins just once since he arrived in Italy. If they sign Aubameyang too they are just showing perfectly how to waste a ton of money on has beens.
They’ll do a mix of those kinds of signings and there will inevitably be the odd very good signing Recent transfer market records suggest they would be very lucky to get a better than 50% hit rate on “good” signings. And if they are, for example, signing 6 players this window then having 3 who pan out might not be enough
Their situation is not the norm, a club with a poor squad in the relegation zone taken over by an immense wealth fund. It should be easier to improve on what they've got than the average 50% mean. Mind you, that's its January probably means they are operating in a market where the "hit rate" for signings is possibly much lower than 50% historically.
I honestly think about 80% of our problems have gone with Gao. I think we could be in for a treat next season.
We already had a good transfer policy and a good a manager. We just needed good owners. I think Ralph's going to make a mug out of certain people now he'll be able to get in more players that he wants and will suit his style.
That was exactly how I interpreted Semmens’ words in his interview (the ones several took negatively as “no money available) Still a big “IF” in there though
